This is excellent listening and reading! its brought to light that the Western World owes so much the Eastern Roman Empire / Byzantine Empire. If it had not existed makes you wonder if the Newly forming country's in the former Western Roman Empire would have been able to survive the Islamic crusade of expansion by conquering. Lars Delivers an Exceptional and vivid picture of Constantine's City and really makes you feel that everyone of us in the west has a debt to the falen empire and the lessons of its fall should be learnt quickly in the world we live in Today.

Loved this podcast from beginning to end. I love history but found I knew very little about the Byzantine Empire. This podcast was both enlightening and entertaining. Mr. Brownworths style is definitely easy on the ears - clear audio, excellent format, and not a bunch of fluff. Thanks Mr. Brownworth!

Byzantines RULE
Great lectures ! Mr. Brownworth has a voice that will keep you "tuned in" to a topic that has been caught in the backwaters of history as presented in the US.

Mr. Brownworth has illuminated a forgotten period of history which is not really that far in the past, and which had an enormous influence on western civilization.

This is the best history podcast I have stumbled on so far. The delivery is superb and he story itself fluid and captivating. The saga of Byzantium was foggy to me until I started listening to this series. It is absolutely fascinating. Thanks for a remakable achievement. J.J. Surbeck San Diego, CA

Very, very good
I have so enjoyed hearing the episodes and I am looking forward to the last episode, even though I would like it to continue. With a back ground in Classical archaeology and now working at a museum with Islamic art the episodes has filled a gap for me.

Best Podcast Ive ever heard
His way of going about describing this forgotten era of history is absolutely genius. Really gives you a feeling of the time, not just a series of events. You understand what was going on in the world, not only in Byzantium, and get a true feeling for the era.

1 Great Podcast
12 Byzantine Rulers is my favorite Podcast. This is a great Podcast because of its content and high production quality. I commute up to three hours a day, and I have listened to hundreds of Podcasts; this is the best one. For the history buff, this is as good as it gets. Instead of hurling obscenities at the ubiquitous moron driving ten miles under the speed limit, or the guy who doesn’t understand what a turn lane is, or the person causing a quarter mile backup so they can make a left turn into a latte stand, I now actually enjoy the time spent in my car. This Podcast has made me a better man.
