Welcome to your new podcast addiction
Frank Edward Nora just talks. And talks. About everything. Its one of the most addictive shows (whether it be TV, radio, podcast) Ive ever heard. 30 minutes of this guy (almost every day) just talking, sometimes giggling to himself, reviewing the ups and downs of his day, every little mental and physical detail -- stuff we all go through. There are also some features; for example, he does real-time reviews of beverages and snacks--I know that may sound wierd and unappealing, but you hear the ice in the glass, the drink being gulped down and then he reports back to us the instant his taste buds notify his brain of the flavors, giving us a moment of clarity and detail we usually don allow ourselves in our busy lives. The ideas for the show are genius, and his dedication to putting out show after show means that this is all coming from the heart. Please keep doing the show; its become a part of my daily life!

Listen to this podcast or someone may die!
Its true. We don really know how this crazy world works, do we? It is very possible that by not listening to this podcast, someone will die. And how will you handle having that burden on your shoulders? For example: You choose not to listen to The Overnightscape. Instead, you listen to that crappy Dawn & Drew show. Due to the irregular length of the dawn and drew show, you end up leaving your house 2 minutes earlier than you would have if you listened to the consistent, full 30 minutes of The Overnightscape. So, you crash you Hummer H2 into a school bus that runs a red light and both you and the bus are engulfed in a raging inferno. Had you listened to Frank Edward Nora and left 2 minutes later, the kids would have made it to their kindergarten field trip at Stop & Shop (where they are given free cupcakes in the supermarket bakery and then send thank you notes that say things like "thanks for the cupcakes. they are my favorit (sic) food. thank you for showing me how the meat grinder works and the cash register."). You would have made it to your morning spinning class at the gym had you only left home 2 minutes later, but now you are in a coma with a fractured skull and with virtually no chance of surviving without serious brain damage. Here are some things I learned about from The Overnightscape: 1) Sippy lids suck! 2) Altoids contain rendered animal skin and bones (gelatin!) 3) There IS such a thing as the perfect vegetarian burrito 4) Everything about the devolution of the NJ shopping mall 5) Not all vegetarians are health freaks. Frank smokes cigars like a chimney and drinks lots of single malt scotch. Keep up the good work, Frank!

This is the most addictive programme I have ever come across. The pleasantly geeky Frank Edward Nora talks about nothing and everything for half an hour every weekday. Franks Removed, But Yet So Close
Sometimes Im 3000 miles away at home on a CA Island, sometimes Im in the other direction in Europe on business. What keeps those hours flying entertained and fresh? Frank does. I usually download a a past weeks worth at a time and iPod them along with me. Franks insights on local NJ/NY culture are refreshing and never stagnent. There are times I may spend 2 to 5 hours in Newark changing planes. Rather than feel like a displaced left-coaster, Frank and his cache of friends and relatives make me feel like I am a local living right there with them. His product reviews are spot on and take most of the mystery out of guessing WTF" is that? when I see it in the stores. Nice job Frank and more of your Dad and his stories. Try the Overnightscape and you will be hooked too.

Frank Rules!
Frank, who was "podcasting" long before rss feeds were widely used to distribute mp3 files, is incredibly (and I do mean incredibly) consistent in his good nature and delight in the little triumphs and discoveries life brings him. This could get sacharine were it not for the occasional rants about his mildly neurotic peeves and aversions. Frank is a regular joe with a sunny disposition and a child-like fascination with the minutiae of everyday life in New Jersey and Manhattan. --Caleb de Florida

Escape boring podcasts
Are you tired of podcasts with zero content, minimal production values, and crappy pod-safe muzak? The Overnightscape is something different! God knows how he does it, but Frank Edward Nora manages to crank out a consistently entertaining half-hour show every single weeknight. He builds his monologues around such unpromising topics as junk food, scotch, & cigar reviews, the annoyances of a daily commute from New Jersey to Manhattan, plot summaries of Mister Rogers Neighborhood, and whatever else strikes his fancy. Bits of audio reality, phone calls to his hyperkinetic sister, and engaging oral history from his dad are also part of the mix. Like his hero Jean Shepherd, Frank is excellent company, and The Overnightscape stands above the rest.

Frank publishes the show daily from monday to friday, he answers to listener email and plays send-in audio clips as well. One of the things I like about The Overnightscape is that you can listen ocassionally without being confused. Many shows seem to have a recurring thread which makes it a little difficult for those who don listen regularly. Recently, I started listening again after an absence of a couple of months. I also like the variety of subjects discussed, the informal presentation, his appreciation for listeners, and just the fact that its always there... for many months, theres been an Overnightscape every day. Finally, as I write this, Frank is relating his experiences from the recent Podcast Expo which I think makes his show even more compulsive listening than usual. Enjoy!

You GOT to listen to this one
A professionally produced daily show with the musings, reviews, and family of Frank Edward Nora. The hosts sister Julie is a hyperactive Duran Duran obsessed woman who offers "dream dates" to listeners who win her contests. I haven heard that Simon and the boys are looking for a triangle player, but if they do ... Anyway, you need to listen to Frank and The Overnightscape. I do everyday.

What can I say
The Overnightscape is by and away the best lifestyle podcast on the internet. Ive been doing my own show for almost a year now and have not come any where near close to matching his style, regularity, reliability and wittiness (if thats a word!). Frans a blast to listen to, and his shows are personal to make you feel as if you e just having a casual conversation which I look foward to each weekday. Simply put, if you e not listening to this show you e depriving yourself of a great time. Now heres hoping I get an email verification this time :).

A genuine pleasure
Frank, Thanks for continuing to share all the fun details of life. It is somehow incredibly reassurring to hear your thoughts on all the little stuff that fills our minds every day. And when you do make occasional comments on the big things like New Orleans your comments are far more perceptive than the mainstream media. Speach is what counts - Keep it going. Owen.

One of the best
Franks commentary on everyday life entertains and enlightens us all in regards to the smaller details life has to offer. One of the best things about Frank is that he has no fear of simply being himself on the air. He doesn cover up the everyday mishaps we all experience. We join him over and over as he spills coffee on his shirt, stumbles over a curb while walking through Times Square, or has a bag of candy fly all over the studio while trying to open the bag for an on-air review. This is a real life commentary. Something we can all relate to. Get it now!

I really enjoy your podcast and I am going to attempt to leave a unique comment, not that those who leave somewhat generic comments don mean it any less, but I endevour to be different, sometimes. :) Thank you so much for your podcast. I have enjoyed it ever since I started listening to it many months ago. Your podcast is similar to converstations that my friends and I get into and I love listening to your stories, your wisdom and your humour. Your tribute to 911 this last month was chilling especially when you shared your tapes of you walking by the towers some weeks earlier. Your Dads rememberances of the Engineer who invented the perpetual motion machine brought back memories of a boss I once had that was similar in many respects. It made me laugh. Please keep up the good work. You are doing a fantastic job and I gladly give you my vote this month. (and next month, and the month after, etc). Have a great day Paul

Bigger Than Jesus!
Sorry for the comment title, but I figure that a little controversy can go a long way in getting the word out about this great podcast. Frank Edward Nora has a rare gift -- the ability to sit down in front of a microphone and crank out (half) hour after (half) hour of quality programming. The ability to command the listeners' attention when doing something as mundane as reviewing a candy bar or bottled water. I wanted to see how hard it was, so I tried to record my own podcast (I downloaded castblaster) and I gave up after about 30 seconds. FEN makes it look ridiculously easy. Listen to this podcast. You won't regret it. Jason In NJ

I would like to suggest however since I am not much of a candy eater or a cigar smoker but a do enjoy a beer now and again and again and again, how about some beer reviews? If you need a second opinion Id be glad to buy you one at the pub of your choice. Im right down here in union county (area code 908).Perhaps we could do a beercast. Overnightscape Rawwks!!
Hey Frank, hope ur reading this. Im listening to Episode #278, Im from Glasgow,Scotland and in the city centre there is a fantasy weapons shop and they too sell swords and daggers and movie memorobila. Plenty of Lord Of The Rings and old Scottish swords in there. Ive been listening to the show since about June-ish, at the release of Podcasting on iTunes. I listen to the show on the way to and in school if i can, it rocks, its by far the best podcast there is! Congratulations with your achievements in the Podcast Alley Top 50 well done on invading the Top 10, you deserve better.Since you mentioned the Tumble Bus Ive become obsessed and begun to tease my friends telling them they are Tumble Bus Material and so on.This is pretty insignificant but since you rate different products I thought Id mention a sugary drink called Irn-Bru known as " Scotlands best kept secret" its a drink manufactured and sold exclusively in Scotland, its a tradition over here- everybody loves it. Unfortunately you cant get any unless maybe someone is selling it worldwide on eBay but heres a link to the website you should definetely check it out.Anyway, before I go I feel i should say something really stereotypical of a Scot so here you go " Och aye the noo!! yours sincerely, Brendan Brownlie

Frank Nora, ably assisted by his sister and father, is the kind of natural presenter that you cant help liking. Whether he is reviewing strangely flavoured products or relating yet another Manhattan shop closure - or even banging his head - Frank stays on the level with his listeners, neither playing up to them or thinking theyre daft either. A must - although I would like to request that when reviewing a cigar and a lightly - flavoured minty water, you do the water first!!!

Probably the best podcast on the web.
The Overnightscape is a daily (five days a week) podcast, that looks at the mundane, the picayune and the surreal in a way that is always fresh and new. In fact, his podcasts pre-date podcasting itself, as his show was available for years before the podcasting craze took off. The Overnightscape offers a cool look at the life of a guy from NJ without the lame "what exit?" jokes. I am a fairly recent listener. However, long after I tired of Dawn and Drew, Adam Curry, et al., I still listen to every episode of our host, Frank Edward Nora coming from his home studio (whose wife is either never home, or sitting patiently in the next room -- she is a mystery woman!) Although I literally live about 15-20 minutes from Noras home base and studio in NJ, he describes events through a unique filter that make Nutley, NJ sound like the most happening place on the planet. He aims for shades of Gene Sheppard. I see that, and up him with tones of James Agee. You will surprise yourself as you sit on the edge of your seat to hear his reviews of everyday items, such as candy bars, bottled water, cigars, scotch coffee, and soft drinks (one bottled water didnt taste "fun" enough -- it had a "serious" taste). You will anxiously await the area code of each episode (each 3-digit episode number corresponds to an area code -- at least for about 800+ more episodes). There are phone calls with his Duran Duran-obsessed sister, Julie, as well as his father, Frank Ralph Nora, who shares stories about everything from the military to architectural engineering. What can I say? Its an addicting show. And Im glad Im hooked. Expecting to run into Frank Edward Nora at a gas station or convenience store soon, Jason in NJ

He wont do ... THAT!
Frank, the host, is a very complex (though insane) personality. He muses over things like the size of a coffee cup logo and Umbunto Linux. Since he found the word "Umbunto" interesting and had to repeat "Linux" a few times once he found out how to pronounce it, I wasnt surprised when he was impressed with comments that contain big words. (Am I doing OK with the vocabulary so far?). His daily dose of Norisms include topics like cigars, beer, and hard liquor. His honest approach includes going to Barnes and Noble to find a book on how to light and smoke a cigar ... background work before he bought his first stogey. What I do find interesting is that Frank is a very paranoid vegetarian. He wont even eat veggies off of a barbeque previously used for meat. Overall Frank and I seem to have cigars and a good adult beverage in common, but not much else. His entertaining presentation and professional production make this my favorite podcast. Frank does a really good job entertaining himself for 30 minutes every day. It comes across in this cast, and is almost as fun to listen to. Regards, Jerry in California

Heres my vote for Mr. Nora.
I vote for The Overnightscape not due to the quality or the insight but rather for the originality and the mundane aspect of the show. Like a great majority of the workfoce in this planet, I commute by driving to and fro. Trapped in my car in some smelly highway (GSP), Franks narrative resemebles a friend sitting in the backseat just yappin away with good humor and a rather content demeanor. He gives a human touch to the otherwise dreary and dull ordinary and sometimes excrutiating commute. I want to thank Frank for keep it real because he reminds me that its the little things in life like a cigar, or a slurpee, or a stupid insect dropping by my feet, what makes this whole DAMN SHIT (commute) I put up with everyday a tad more beareable.

The Overnightscape is the only one I cannot miss. I am having some problems downloading it since I switched from Ipodder Lemon to Itunes. It downloads very slow and has occasionally timed out I guess since I got only 10 or 15 minutes of the show. Then I cannot get the rest. The Overnightscape is a great daily 30-minute slice of life from New Jersey/NYC--reflections on the everyday, junk-food reviews, scraps of audio reality, random musings, and anything else its genial host Frank Nora chooses to obsess over. Strangely compelling and with excellent production values, The Overnightscape draws inspiration from radio legend, Jean Shepherd. Give it a try, and you may become addicted.

Self-Absorption Made Interesting
What's special about this show isn't that it's a podcast. Who cares what the delivery mechanism is! Shows of this caliber we should vote for at Great Show Alley! The Overnightscape is an example of a unique creative endurance: shows nightly (except weekends), even during times of national emergency. It existed years before podcatching clients became available. Subscribe to the show and enjoy host Frank Edward Nora's broadband imagination.

Don't Miss a Show!
A voyeuristic journey through the life of an American living in New Jersey, and working in New York. Frank takes you through the corridor of losers and then onwards for a perfect breakfast maybe even to his favourate coffee cart. Then at the end of the day, he'll take you home by the PATH and then the bus to taste test beer and cigars. If you're really lucky he'll give you candies (no gelatine is an animal by-product ) and water. You may get to meet his whinging whining sister Julie who is F#cking HOT! Or you may be regaled with tales of a by gone era from his father also called Frank. And if you are really lucky he might have you stay for dinner where all sorts of vegitarian delights will be offered just DONT ask for pizza though, aiy yai yai!!!

Frank Edward Nora is the modern-day equivalent of his hero, Jean Shepherd, legendary storyteller, comedian & commentator from New York's WOR, et al. Nora's ability to make even the most mundane interesting is truly a gift, and his observations of everyday life of working in New York City & living in Jersey never fail to entertain & will have you wanting more than the (week)daily 30-minute dose... Audio Seinfeld for the 21st Century!
Television had its "show about nothing" in the '90s with "Seinfeld", and now the Internet has its "podcast about nothing" in the 2000s with "The Overnightscape." This "nothingness" is actually very entertaining because Frank takes the seemingly mundane affairs of life and spins them into fascinating yarns that will cause you to chortle, ponder, ruminate, and curse. He sometimes breaks with his monologue format by bringing on sidekicks -- such as his insane sister Julie and his experience-laden father. Plus, you can learn all about new snacks and beverages! This is my favorite podcast. Signed: Mike Rael (pronounced rail like in railroad) in Colorado.

Finally i can VOTE!!
I've been trying to vote for a while now, but i had a problem w/ my norton Firewall blocking the vote window. Anyway, I'd like to say that i've been a big fan of Frank Edward Nora's Overnightscape ever since i found it and started listening to it (i joined in at about episode 89). Since then i have downloaded and listened to all of the episodes on overnightscape. Unlike some other podcasts that rely on duos, or raunchy content that can get old very fast, the ramblings, rants, and reviews that i get from Frank never get old. It is especially fun when his wacky sister Julie comes onto the show and talks about the guys she likes and Roger Taylor from Duran Duran, and her Triangle playing and her imaginary contests, the list goes on and on. The production quality of the show is great, and has a nice sound quality, however i would like him to record in a higher bitrate. The Overnightscape is really what got me into listening to podcasts, and has sparked an interest in me to want to do my own podcast. The Overnightscape is truly a great find, and i will continue to listen to it as long as Frank can dish them out. Regards, John from SoCal (aka baldmonkeyboy)

Everyday New York
Great peek into everyday life in New York/New Jersey area. Particularly interesting for outsiders. Some odd and amusing family members occasionaly interviewed by host Frank Edward Nora. High quality recording. Strict 30 minute format.

Vote for it!
The Overnightscape is funny, interesting, educational and personal all rolled into one, plus a lot more! It is, by far, my favorite podcast. Frank Nora brings an excitement to his podcasts that is guaranteed to keep you entertained, *and thinking*, show after show. Another thing about Frank, is that he's *always* on the lookout for podcast opportunity's. Like a roving reporter, one day he may be tracking down ghosts, and the next day observing a Jennifer Lopez protest. Frank is really doing more than just talking to you, he's putting on a show, kind of like old time radio did. It's good fun and I highly recommend it!

Nobody embraces life like Frank. He takes his life experiences and observations, the good and the bad and turns them into audio entertainment. He entertains and inspires the listener to embrace life, try new things, do things differently, laugh at yourself and so much more. An exceptional and honest talent.
