Film Pigeons Episode 38: Dances With Wolves, Driving Miss Daisy, Top 4 Old Acting Performances
After a slight delay the thirty eigth episode of the Film Pigeons podcast has arrived. Thankfully, its a doozy. This week Andrew, Eddie and Mark head into the annals of American and Oscar (both films won Best Picture) history as we commiserate with wildlife in our review of Kevin Costner's Dances With Wolves and examine the geriatric "friendship" that develops between Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy in Bruce Beresford's Driving Miss Daisy. We also bust out the plastic slipcovers and piles of newspaper from the 40s in celebration of our Top 4 Old Person Performances. Sara's abscence allows Eddie to go hog wild as he reveals his ideal weekend while Mark and Andrew list the best Oscar winners from the nineties and posit some alternative winners. Film Pigeons Episode 36: Days of Thunder, Death Proof, Top 4 Badass Actors
On the thirty-sixth episode of the Film Pigeons podcast Sara is off book learnin' and Andrew, Eddie and Mark take the opportunity to let the testosterone run rampant as we review two vehicular quasi-classics. First, we ride shotgun with Tom Cruise as he pursues Nicole Kidman and some kind of shiny racing trophy in Tony Scott's Days of Thunder. Then, we partake in the ultra-violence that only a screen pairing of Quentin Tarantino and Kurt Russel can bring as we review Death Proof. Finally, in honor of all the axle grease and generally badassery we reveal out Top 4 bad-ass male leads. In our spare time Andrew hosts a hastily constructed bit of movie trivia, Mark and Eddie engage in more sexual puns than Bob Saget in an animated penguin film and Eddie reveals his disturbing fascination with the film Whip It. On the thirty-third episode of the Film Pigeons podcast Andrew, Eddie, Mark and Sara hit the road with Tobey Maguire in search of desperate, abortion-worthy situations as we review Lasse Hallstrom's Cider House Rules and heartlessly butcher the French language in our discussion of Arnaud Desplichin's A Christmas Tale. Film Pigeons Episode 31: The Crazies, Chinatown, Top 4 Scary Movie Scenarios
In the thirty-first episode of the Film Pigeons podcast (in which we work alphabetically through the classics and provide more enlightenment than a pholosophizing monk holding a light bulb) Andrew, Eddie, Mark and Sara head into the murky depths of two of cinema's greatest locations. We explore (and attempt not to forget about) Chinatown in our review of Roman Polanski's Chinatown then hit up generically idyllic, yet non-descript mid-western town beset by unexplainable horrors in our review of Breck Eisner's The Crazies. Also, speaking of murky depths, we turn inward and reveal our top 4 movie scenarios that would terrify us in real life. Mixed in with the usual madness is Eddie's condemnation of modern day parenting, Sara's version of movie trivia and Andrew's irrational fear of The Towering Inferno. And it has nothing to do with OJ Simpson being in the cast. SHOW CONTENTS Movie Trivia - 7:40 The Crazies - 17:12 Chinatown - 41:17 Top 4 Movies That Would Scare us in Reality - 1:19:27 Music this week comes from sadly defunct pop outfit Chin Up, Chin Up. Also, in honor of all this sea-faring, we list our top 4 water movies. Mixed into all of this, of course, is Mark bringing the crazy as he runs us through his masculine movie trivia and Eddie making vague, innuendo filled references to softcore late at night Showtime skin flicks. In other words, this is a pretty typical episode. This week on the Film Pigeons podcast we see the return of Eddie as he joins Sara, Andrew and Mark in the proverbial smoky back corridors of our political system in their reviews of Jehane Noujaim's Control Room and Michael Ritchie's The Candidate.
