It's a perfect theme for the end of a tumultuous decade as it sets the tone for what I'm sure we all hope will be a smoother 10 years aided by the power of love. All of the tunes are about love, and range in BPMs from walking paces to tempos for all out running. Here's the music video version of Louinel's song, featuring Sushane Holmes: LOUINEL JEAN feat. SUSHANE HOLMES - POWER OF LOVE As this is my third anniversary show, I reminisce by bringing back some old tunes as well as introduce some new ones. I found most of the tunes on Music Alley, and for that I'm grateful to Mevio and their fine service to music podcasting. So I was really excited to receive email from Ariel's Cyber PR about their Holiday Campaign List featuring 28 songs. I picked 8 that are great for JogTuning. It's a 30 minute session that's fairly easy going, with a max BPM of 174 and plenty of running in the 160s. Besides Ariel's List, I added another special treat as an outro. It's Troy Lee Warden's dance version of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Here's the breakdown: From Ariel's Cyber PR The Nadas - BPM 165 Janyse - BPM 120 F & M - BPM 174 Mark Mangold (feat. I searched Mevio's Music Alley and found more than enough tracks for the show. One tune is actually called "Run to the Music." What could be more pertinent to my show? The only non-Mevio tune is by Lady Southpaw. She emailed me about her passion for running and about her music, which is all about running, literally. She wrote and sings "Why I Run", which is the sprint tune for this episode and runs at 180 BPM. You can find all the artists, their websites, and purchase options on this episode's show notes page. A year and 1/2 ago I published my first predominently reggae episode and it ranked high on my download stats. Reggae is just plain easy and fun to run to. On this show, not only do I bring reggae to the forefront again but I feature an outstanding musician, composer, producer, and humanitarian, Louinel Jean. Jean is a Haitian who moved to Jamaica in 1998. A man of deep compassion, Jean composes and performs music that not only entertains but inspires and informs. He calls for us to be our best and to be sensitive to the hardship of others, especially children. Other tunes not included in this show keenly increase our awareness oif injustice. Check out two outstanding works on this theme: Darfur Outcry on Garageband.com and Justice on iTunes. Jean first graced my show on episode #23 and then again on #33 with 3 of his most popular works. On this episode, I replay these tunes along with 2 newer Louinel Jean tracks, and songs by 4 other artists in the reggae and dub traditions. Exactly one year ago, on episode #22, all of the tunes I played were in the limited BPM range of the 150s. I recently received a compliment about that show from Michael on the JogTunes Facebook fan page. That prompted me to produce another single BPM range show. I chose the 160s because I believe most runners find it a comfortable range for working out. Some people may consider adding this episode to the 150s episode to create a very pleasant 80 minute, extended session. I welcome feedback about single range episodes and the concept of daisy chaining those shows. Please send your comments to comments at jogtunes.com or to my Twitter or Facebook pages. Here are the artists, their locations, and the resources I consulted to find them: By Personal Communication Louinel Jean - Jamaica - BPM of 163 Rob Szabo - Ontario, Canada - 160 From CyberPR Jessie Murphy In the Woods - New York - BPM of 169 Nick Dougherty - Los Angeles - 168 Trey Green - Boston - 166 and 168 From the Independent Online Distribution Alliance's Promonet Eastern Sun and John Kelley - Venice, California - BPM 118 Dengue Fever - Los Angeles - 162 From Mevio's Music Alley Yamasaki - The UK - BPM 115 From the Rock and Roll Report Podcast White Witch Canyon - East Bay, California - BPM 166 From the DigiVegas Podcast Matt Parad - New York City - BPM 161 Please feel free to send comments about this and other episodes or about BPM running to comments at jogtunes.com, post them on our JogTunes.com Facebook fan page, or send me a tweet.
