Dissecting Worlds - Season 2-7 Law & Order Conclusions

Finally the Dissecting Worlds pair get back on the beat and bring together the conclusions from series 2 on Law & Order and Crime & Punishment in this bumper episode.   In so doing they look at the subject in Vampire fiction. They consider the seperation of the Judicary in genre fiction. Ask why does Jonah.J.Jameson hate spiderman? They also ponder the relationship between Babylon 5 security and the Chief Constable of South Wales. Sigmund Freud and TV's Sherlock help with enquiries, and Starfleet Security's job spec is considered.   On the way they also consider the shady godlen dagger wielding almost respectable genre cousin of Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror - Crime Fiction & telly - CSI ends up walking into a  door taking the jury system with it and Morse may fall down some stairs.   Harry Potter, Capes and Tights and Dredd also guest star, With some parochial Marvel movie news. Ed McBain & She Hulk are mentioned in dispatches.   Kehhar gets confused bettween honor/guilt culture (refering to honour and face which are the same thing - the dolt!) &  gets told off by his wife.   It's just like an early epsiode of the Sweeney really but without the smoking. They might even mention The Wire in an epsiode with more conclusions than the Return of the King movie.   Email:[email protected] or twit Grampus @theGrampus or Kehaar @Clarkythecruel for feedback.   Further opinionated nonsense available at Matt's Tolkien Gestures column on the geek syndicate site and roleplaying/wargaming rubbish from Kehaar at http://clarkythecruel.wordpress.com/    The excellent Harker mentioned is available from here: http://www.arielpress.com/about.html

Scrolls Middle Earth Special Part 2: Everybody's Tolkien At Me

Ok, urgent pub visit done and dusted - look I had to get Summer out of the way so Clover could do a skype interview ok... don't you be judging meOk, blurb ahoy -In which the awooga button is tossed on the ground and comprehensively stomped on so that everyone can get comfy and chat about the uber-fantasy that is Lord of the Rings.Taking our cue from the Festival In The Shire we talk about the great works from all kinds of angles - discussing them in terms scholarly, as fans having a good time sharing our experiences, and as readers just celebrating Middle Earth for it's depth, history and grandeur.  We also talk a load of old rot, giggle stupidly, mis-quote, mis-understand and mis-appropriate other peoples thoughts and theories. But, you know, with style. It's a monster show, so we've had to cut out the adaptations section just to keep it to a reasonable length.  I'm guessing that could make a part 3 all of it's own at some point.

Dissecting Worlds series 2- Episode 5 Harry Potter & the Arguing Northerners

In this spoiler filled outing the Lizard of Leeds & Wirral Seagull get to grips with jolly quidditch sticks, civil war, murder and death. Yes it's the Werner Hertzog banter that is the Potterverse a world of magic, mystery, genocide and govenrment incompetence.   Natural fodder for the bantering Muggle bi-polarness that is Dissecting Worlds.   We're looking at Law and Order with particular attention on the Ministry of Magic, Dumbeldore's Army, Order of the Pheonix & You-know-who. This leads us into a merry dance down the First World War, Nazis, the Ulster Defence Association, 2nd Amendment of the US Consitution, the deference between vigilantes & miltia amongst much else.   And a hufftastic Quidditch argument. What's not to love? Sit down with your Butterbeer & Chocolate Frogs (or beverage & snacks of choice) and enjoy.   Feedback to [email protected] or @clarkythecruel or @theGrampus on twitter or on the lovely forums.   Compeition entries (beg) to the email address by 20th August.   News on future episodes and series as well.

She, Monstrous Regement, Lord Of The Rings, The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, Audition, Dead Until Dark, Carmilla, Revelation Space, Heaven's Net Is Wide.Amongst the chin-stroking and cod intellectual comments we learn a valuable lesson concerning the consumption of beer and ice-cream, fail utterly to mention Ursula LeGuin (doh!) or Angela Carter (double-doh!), and continue our tradition of mis-remembering key plot points.Dion is calling from the moon, so please excuse his sound quality.By the way, does anyone know where Mattie is?He's got big soft eyes, fluffy ears and a bald fat head.  There's £5 reward if returned unmolested.

Welcome to the pilot episode of Scrolls, the podcast for literary geekdom. The team first explores some of the influences that got us interested in fantasy, sci-fi and horror back in the day. We then roll an eye over the books we’ve been reading most recently, before beginning the first of our (soon to be legendary) discussions about the vast flood of literary adaptations out there. Finally we share some of the books we feel compelled to come back to again and again.Amongst it all we wander between swearing monkeys, dead wasps and the joyously camp fifth ghostbuster. We ponder deep mysteries such as the genre placement of Muppet Treasure Island and just how easy it would be to get a can of coke in Mordor. We also discover which member of the cast cheated at Fighting Fantasy, which one rates The Very Hungry Caterpillar as a formative piece of genre fiction and who thinks there’s just something special about a pangolin.

Episode 21 - Ubu Bubutasticulair :), Jamie Smart - inaudible and full of vitriol

In this super-duper special episode, The Ladies of the Racks get up close and personal with none other than Ubu Bubu creator and all-round cool dude, Jamie Smart!Alas, there are no news and reviews segments, but heck, who needs those when you have a awesome interview?? Especially when said interview reveals a deep seated hatred of Jaffa Cakes, a general fear of selling oneself at conventions, a far too large amount of talk about cat porn, and the revelation that Jamie Smart smells. It's true. No, really.Sir Jamie Smartington sticks with the girls through Rack Music, almost causing a divide in Rack City, and even puts forth a Peeve of the Fortnight. Like this podcast wasn't filled with enough vitriol All this plus girly squeals, more random swear words than you can shake a stick at and a whole lot of fun!~ Please to note: We apologise profusely for the sound quality of this episode. Unfortunately technical difficulties minutes before recording and the Pamela program's all-round hatred of Racks fun lead to a rather muffled Jamie. We present this episode to you in the best state we could muster, and we hope to muck around with other recording programmes in order to have Jamie on again in the future. If he'll do it, that is, we were quite scary... ~Jamie Smart's website of awesomeness

Comic Racks 19 - Everybody Loves Paul

Episode 19 - Everybody Loves PaulIn this momentous episode the ladies do away with their usual format in order to bring you their very first creator interview with none other than the frankly rather awesome Paul Cornell.Paul has dipped his toe into the wonderful world of comics on many an occasion, writing stories such as Wisdom, 2000AD's XTNCT and the currently running (and fucking brilliant) Captain Britain and MI:13 series, to name but a few. As well as working in the comics world, Paul has penned some of the best episodes of Doctor Who to grace our TV screens (Human Nature and Family Of Blood, anyone?), several Doctor Who novels and audio shows, and episodes for top series' such as Primeval, Robin Hood and Casualty.During the interview, the girls quiz Paul about his upcoming projects, whether being a writer makes watching shows/reading books more difficult from a technical point of view, and whether he's had any unnerving fan experiences (other than Stacey professing her undying love for him at Bristol Convention earlier this year, of course.)To top the episode off, we pick our Rack Music for this fortnight; both of which turn out to be rather geekily inspired as one of us riffs on a Watchmen theme while the other takes inspiration from Wisdom #3.All this as well as some insights into Paul's writing history, advice for budding writers and some good old fashioned swearing.Don't forget to take part in the UK Comics Podcast Group competition by listening to the 5 Secret Quotation episodes: for more information visit www.comicspodcasts.co.ukEnjoy!

This is mostly because they couldn't think of a proper topic, but hey, it's all good. During these spoiler-rific reviews Iz proclaims that everything ever is "fucking awesome", Stace brings everyone down and The Racks it's first ever joint Top of the Racks. That's right, folks, there's a comic out there so awesome that it gets the full Comic Racks endorsement! Comic Racks Episode 15 - Return of the Rackettes!

Firstly, the Ladies of Rackington would like to apologise to you, the wonderful listening public, for the untimely release of this episode. Technical difficulties and unprovoked front door attacks prevented this episode from being released on time, but trust us, it's worth the wait! After several months of being completely rubbish, the girls finally get their act together and present to you their second and rather awesome Rackette, the lovely Marcus Q. Join them in the main feature as they discuss Marcus' comic likes and dislikes, how dyslexia can affect a comic reader and what comic creators and editors could be doing to improve the reading quality of their works.During the show, Stacey gets excited several times, on topics such as The Futureheads (oh, will she ever shut up about them? I think not), Jamie Smart and awesome looking Transformers covers. As well as all the excitement there are rants a-plenty as Iz slates her Tail of the Racks, and Marcus addresses a friend who borrowed (read: nicked) some books once...Unfortunately, Mr Q departed before the Rack Music and Peeve segments, but never fear! Iz and Stace produce the goods, as they can never let a good rant lie. Will Stace disguise herself as Velma to stalk The Futureheads? Will Marcus ever get his books back? Will Iz accept that being "the tits" is, in fact, a good thing? Listen on and find out!Enjoy!

This section witnesses Iz inadvertantly insulting Steve Coogan (she didn't mean to) while going mad over Son of Rambow, Stace losing her mind over not having Fillerbunny, and the Racks being divided over the new Who companion.Iz very rudely dominates the Top of the Racks section with a 12 minute hysteria fit over the best-birthday-present-in-the-whole-world, but makes up for it by also choosing Pushing Daisies which the girls bond over. Stace drops two (TWO!) titles in her Tail and Iz warns of the perils of watching Superhero Movie. For the main topic, the Racks chat about which creators/ writers / artists they are most looking forward to seeing in Bristol, and for the first time ever, both Racks like each others choice for Rack Music.

In our Top of the Racks section Stacey gets a little creepy over her Kingdom Come and Iz goes all groupie over Mike Norton (again). If anyone is easily offended, please do NOT listen to the Peeve of the Fortnight section - the girls out-do themselves on the swearing front this week..but it's all Anne Robinson's fault.Listen out for the all important shout-outs, which Iz manages to screw up quite a bit, but recovers in time to discuss logos on thongs and dog jackets :)Enjoy!!Reviews:Jenna Jameson's Shadow Hunter #0Teen Titans Year OneMain Feature:Dr Who Season Three (The Runaway Bride, Smith and Jones - 42)Top of the Racks:Absolute Edition Kingdom ComeGravity

Cover your ears and run for the hills as Stace and Iz swear and rant their way through a round-up of 2007. The Racks look at what they rate as the very best and very worst (and very disappointing) comic issues, comic series’, films, and TV of 2007. Also covered in depth are things on screen, stage, and print in 2008 that are making the girls a little bit over-excited.Along the way Iz proves that senility can happen to the best of us, and reveals why she could possibly be the worst person to go to the cinema with, Stace loses her mind over a panda, and provides a mini musical interlude, showing why one half of a podcast should not be left to their own devices……plus both girls have RANTS a-plenty. Stay tuned all the way through and hear about our awesome competition, a bit of good news and hear us get our contact details right for the very first time ever !!!Happy New Year ? ?

Geek Syndicate - Sword and Sorcery Special

Years passed and rumours began to rumble through the outland kingdoms about a pair of fearless adventurers. Warriors, who roamed trackless deserts, mighty mountains and shining seas. These rumours grew into legends about these men who were at once; buccaneers, slaves, rouges and now Geeks for hire. This is the tale of the time the Geek Syndicate crossed swords with the keeper of the vaults of Telos. Their quest was to find classic sword and sorcery movies lost in the mists of time and space. To discard the unworthy (dungeons and dragons) and bring back the treasured few (Lord of the rings, Conan, Excalibur) for the whole kingdom to enjoy, no matter the risk.  Come with me now and listen to a Podcast of high adventure!

I told them not to review the first three episodes of Torchwood that there are those that might not like what they have to say. That there would be factions outside of the law, beyond the government who would stop at nothing to stop Geek Syndicate from revealing massive spoliers for each of the three episodes.Sadly after listening to the show I was more right I could have dreamed.Listen to perhaps the Geek Syndicate's last ever podcast and make your own minds up.
