Oxford Late Night Episode 2

Oxford Late Night is back! Though this show was recorded before the first horribly embarrassing football game of the season, we provide plenty of advice on grove etiquette and how to maximize your gameday fun. So in retrospect, you should have probably just stayed at home. Also on this week's show we talk about the ubiquitous "rating" scale, lessons we wish we could have learned sooner in life, and listen to Tim detail the finer points of non-verbal seduction. If you have any feedback leave it either on our Facebook Page, here in the forums, or send us an email via our Contact Page. LINK: MP3 -BLAKEBUCK

Oxford Late Night - Episode 1

College can be a tough part of anyone's life - you've just moved away from your friends and family, everyone seems obsessed with drinking and partying, and your roommate can't seem to stop talking about the new World of Warcraft Cataclysm expansion. But not all is lost! The Big Hot Sho is proud to present our first episode of Oxford Late Night, the podcast for people who like to party in Oxford. Each week we'll be your guide to what's going on around town as well as what separates a Savant of the Square from that girl with a solo cup stuck in her heel. This week, classes start as students move back into Oxford, which can only mean three things: Traffic sucks. Somehow worse than before. You're again reminded that you haven't graduated. Tons of new students feel lonely and dead inside. But we've got one of those covered! Oxford Late Night is talking all this week about how to make new friends and integrate into Oxford society. So basically, go buy a polo shirt or a new pair of heels and start making caddy racist comments. If you have any feedback leave it either on our Facebook Page, here in the forums, or send us an email via our Contact Page. LINK: MP3 -BLAKEBUCK

RADIO-CallFaulkner8-18-10.mp3

Imagine a life in which you write books that mock traditional southern values, receive massive critical acclaim and commercial success, and drink scotch all day. Basically, William Faulkner is Blake's idol, and quite possibly the smartest men who ever lived. So who better to ask life's toughest questions? Using internet backslash technology, Josh and Blake call up Faulkner to talk about mascots, college degrees, and drink specials. -BLAKEBUCK

Pop Chopper - The Internet is Dead

Last week, an unknowing longtime contributor to the Big Hot Sho passed away. Ted Stevens was many things to many people, a senator, an Alaskan patriot, and to some, a shady embezzler.  But here at BHS, we'll always remember Ted Stevens for his greatest contribution, the revolution of the internet. During a daring speech in the summer of 2006, Stevens discovered that the internet was not just a big truck, but in fact a series of tubes. In addition, I threw in some internet favorites like Punch Out, as well as some classic mashups I completely forgot to post many moons ago.  Here's the complete track list: "The Internet" - Ted Stevens "Whole Lotta Rosie" - AC/DC "Right There, Ride on" - Hideki Naganuma "Blinded by the Light" - Manfred Mann's Earth Band "Fight Theme" - Mike Tyson's Punch Out "Evil Woman" - Electric Light Orchestra "OMG" - Usher ft. Wil.I.Am "Bad Romance" - Lady Gaga "Don't Bring Me Down" - Electric Light Orchestra "I See You Watching (TV Rock Remix)" - Tune Brothers "Glamorous" - Fergie "This Old Heart of Mine" - Isley Brothers "Acceptable in the 80's" - Calvin Harris Ted Stevens dies the week we're finally setting up internet streaming of Big Hot Sho?  Spooky... -BLAKEBUCK

BHS Radio Promo

Sure, Big Hot Sho is a lot of fun. But with nearly four years of podcasts, radio clips, videos and remixes to absorb, it can be a tad overwhelming. And lets be honest, this is America. On most days I've got an iPhone in my left hand and a Big Mac in the right. The faster and easier I can consume something and toss it aside the better. Especially when my doctor keeps babbling about this "reduced ability to concentrate, increased chance of distraction, reduction in memory capability, blah, blah, blah" mumbo jumbo. I really wasn't listening - I just got a tweet on my phone. So we've taken some of the best of Big Hot Sho and condensed it down to a four minute clip. It's just like the regular show, but now value sized! -BLAKEBUCK

BHS Late Night Episode 1

Like a sorority sister that just got dumped after the Tiki swap, Big Hot Sho is all about trying new things.  Becoming a new woman: a different haircut, a cute dress we borrowed from Kayley, and trip to the bars after drinking enough Boone's Farm to fill even the emptiest of hearts. That's right world, Big Hot Sho has a new, more experimental podcast format, and she just doesn't care what you think! But enough with the metaphors - it's getting really tough to get the regular BDPE crew together.  So we now present you with Big Hot Sho Late Night.  It's a more open-ended show with a few funny friends of mine. There is a loose structure to it covering a variety of topics: celebrity gossip, things you should hate, and of course breasts.  Be warned - the content on the show is also more explicit than normal. Let me know what you guys think here in the forums.  But be sensitive - I think this dress might make me look fat. -BLAKEBUCK

LIL JPG - Oil Be Spillin

Hip Hop music is perhaps one of the most selfish outgrowths of an overly individualistic society. Rappers talk about their cars, firearms, bling, and how important it is to be number one. Luckily, international superstars LIL JPG and MC Rewind have transcended to the a new theatre: social responsibility. Their latest track, Oil Be Spillin, is an enlightened look into unchecked corporate greed and environmental duty. As a surrogate to today's youth, LIL JPG and MC Rewind are standing up to one of mankind's greatest injustices. You can find Oil Be Spillin in stores now on their latest album Crunk as a Skunk. -BLAKEBUCK

Video - Making it Out: Silas Reed n' the Books

Speaking from personal experience, being a musician in a small town can be pretty crap. You can only get so big until you seem to hit a wall, where your only options of growth become touring out of town or getting signed to a professional label or promoter. In this short documentary, which was made for a broadcast journalism class, local band Silas Reed n' the Books tells us what it's like to be 'stuck in the middle'. If you like what you hear, be sure to check out Silas' music on his MySpace at: www.myspace.com/silasreedndabooks -BLAKEBUCK

Video - OUCH≥: Conspicuous Consumption

Oxford Mississippi's Double Decker Festival is wholesome entertainment the entire family can enjoy. Street vendors selling arts and crafts, lively music, and games for the kids. But as with many facets of life in Oxford, there exists a hidden undercurrent of deviancy and alcohol abuse.Perhaps no group better demonstrates this then OUCH³. The Oxford University Community Hash House Harriers. This self-described "drinking club with a running problem" meets once a month and runs along hidden trails anywhere from 2-7 miles. On the way, "hashers" are required to stop at secret checkpoints, chug a beer from a concealed cooler or perfectly-timed "beer wagon", and continue to the next checkpoint. By the end most runners are so exhausted and intoxicated, they might actually think Admiral Ackbar IS Colonel Reb.According to the Local Voice, Hash Runs date back to the 1930's. While it's unclear exactly how long the Oxford chapter has been at it, the fact that it only costs $10 to get obliterated will probably solidify it's future for a long time.www.BigHotSho.com

Pop Chopper - Wayne MEGAMIX

So my new roommate Wayne gives me 27 MP3's and says "make awesome out of this". 3 months later (yeah so I'm busy, fuck you), I now present you with DJ Pop Chopper's Wayne MEGAMIX. 23 tracks mixed into eleven and a half minutes of BADASS. For those of you playing along at home, that means 4 tracks sucked ass. But I'm quite proud of what I came up with. A few pop tracks, a few movie scores, and a few scattered songs make up this setlist. If any of you guys have suggestions for my next MEGAMIX, hit me up in the forums.
