Episode 164: A Work in Podcast Dies Screaming

Here’s a New Year’s treat for you Splattercast listeners, the “lost” episode of the Splattercast. Technically, it was the second episode of A Work In Podcast that never saw the light of day. The short of it, Deejay and I were having difficulties with blog talk’s interface so we grabbed Jeff, T.J., and Steve to do an impromptu A Work in Splattercast. This was originally recorded back in 2008 and was supposed to be given away in a contest, but we never got around to it. Anyways, for those of you who remember A Work in Podcast, the entire premise of the show was to look at science fiction and to discuss a famous critical theory associated with it. In this episode, we chat a bit about Bullough’s theory of Psychical Distance and look at Bruce Kawin’s scholarly article “Children of the Light” which purports to define the differences between the science fiction and horror genres. We also look at Terence Fisher’s The Earth Dies Screaming. I hope you enjoy this episode. It’s quite a change of pace from the usual Splattercast but features the guys engaged in discussion of such things as whether or not genres exist. Hurray for intellectualism! :) Let us know what you think of this episode and whether or not you’d like to see us go in this type of direction in the future. splattercast@deadlantern.com http://www.deadl antern.com visit for the full Splattercast archives

Episode 153: Breast Cancer Awareness Special

This week we dedicate the Splattercast to a special cause near and dear to all of our hearts (literally): saving boobs! Our breast cancer awareness special is all about the greatness of breasts and why they should be saved. We give facts and info on prevention, Deejay explains how to give a Breast Self-Exam, and we discuss the role breasts have played in the horror genre. On top of that, we have a bunch of fans, celebs, and other podcasters who contributed material for the show. It’s two (see what I did there?) hours of mammary goodness. A very special thanks to everyone who contributed, especially those who relayed tough stories about their own encounters with breast cancer, and helped make this one of the most rewarding Splattercast episodes we’ve ever done. And thanks to our great gal pal Ali who added immensely to the discussion and helped provide some covering fire from Deejay’s typical drunken rants :) And apologies for some of the technical difficulties in the last half. Skype was acting stupid. Here is a list of breast cancer charities and foundations you can donate to. And don’t forget, any donation to a charity this month and you’ll score a free, alternate black and white version of Outpost Doom. We’ll probably have that ready next month so get donating! visit http://www.deadlantern.com for the full Splattercast archives

Episode 152: We Who Podcast Behind the Rows

This week, we murder our parents and worship He Who Walks Behind the Rows…and he makes us sit through all of the Children of the Corn movies. Moral of the story: never trust a corn god. Prepare yourselves, Outlanders! And don’t forget, next week is our Breast Cancer Awareness Show! E-mail us your favorite horror breasts to splattercast@gmail.com. If you leave a voicemail (206-350-9636), you’re guaranteed to win a special short film of our long lost zombie flick, Zombie Splatter Feast! What’s cooler than that? Well, if you donate any amount of money to a breast cancer charity, you’ll score a free alternate black and white version of Outpost Doom before the masses get a chance to see it! We’ve got a few horror celebrities taking part in the show next week, so don’t be left out! E-mail and/or call us and tell us why you support finding a cure for breast cancer! visit http://www.deadlantern.com for the full Splattercast archives
