DVD Verdict 465 - The Friday Filibuster (Didn't Peter Cushing play Chewbacca?)
Dave, Mac, and a slowly recovering Erich talk Under the Dome, the new Stephen King novel; Discovery Channel's new documentary on Jack the Ripper; review MST3K: Volume XVI, Ben 10 Alien Force: Volume 5, Stunt Rock, and Roland Emmerich's Godzilla (Blu-ray); determine who really was inside that Chewbacca costume; identify unsuspecting fictional serials killers; and play everyone's favorite new game -- guess the plot of that random DVD review. Share your comments and questions in the new Filibuster discussion forum.
DVD Verdict 464 - Blast Processing! It's-a Me!
Inspired by this week's big Nintendo release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Erich, Tim, and Adam don their plumbers caps for a mini-roundtable discussion on Mario games past, with highlights, lowlights, and nostalgia galore. Before they get to the mushroom-fueled fun, however, it's all about games they've been playing, including Borderlands, Halo: ODST, Modern Warfare 2, Dead Space: Extraction, Beatles: Rock Band, and Torchlight. Feel free to join the rest of the junkies in the new Blast Processing! discussion forum.
DVD Verdict 463 - View from the Couch [11/18/2009]
It's an unseasonably warm November as the Dynamic Dixons talk Christmas lights, acrophobia, and beagle brush-bys. Couch Entertainment News weaves its way through changes in the Disney schedule, the passing of actor Edward Woodward, Twilight hype, online Avatar goodies, and more. To things off, Greaties of the '80s looks back at the formative years of a legendary sleuth in Young Sherlock Holmes. Email your questions, comments, and suggestions to Kent and Michelle or visit them at viewfromthecouch.com.
DVD Verdict 462 - Sounds and Sights of Cinema (Disaster Movies)
While you're waiting on the apocalypse to arrive, tune in to this week's edition of The Sounds and Sights of Cinema, which offers film music selections from disaster movies. John Williams, Alan Silvestri, Debbie Wiseman and others are featured as we present music from The Towering Inferno, Volcano, Flood, The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon, Deep Impact, and The Poseidon Adventure. In addition, Clark offers his thoughts on Roland Emmerich's world-destroying blockbuster 2012 and features music from the film. Clark welcomes your comments, questions, and suggestions in Sounds and Sights Discussion Forum.
DVD Verdict 461 - The Friday Filibuster (Expendable Me)
While Dave, Mac, and Mike wait breathlessly for John Cusack to save the world, they recall post-apocalyptic hijinks of yore (remember Woops! ???), an early assessment of ABC's V, a brief Mad Men Season 3 post-mortem, getting wet for Stallone's new epic The Expendables, trying to make sense of Xavier: Renegade Angel, absorbing the entire undisputed universe of Rocky Balboa on Blu-ray, build your own Alpha Male super team, if Michael Bay had directed it, and Roland Emmerich re-imagines Hitchcock. Share your comments and questions in the new Filibuster discussion forum.
DVD Verdict 460 - Blast Processing! Sick Day
Dave pinch hits for a sickly Erich and recruits the Newfie Wonder Twins, Jon and Steve to help carry the burden. Marvel as the three fill 50 minutes with talk of Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands, Brutal Legend, and Tekken 6, while indulging in such nonsensical digressions as the Arrested Development side-scrolling beat'em-up, their to-date Game of the Year choices (Jon and Dave are on the same page and no, it's not XBLA Streets of Rage 2), most-anticipated releases in the next couple of months and, finally, the Negative Nancy segment where they each find fault in a beloved 2009 release. Feel free to join the rest of the junkies in the new Blast Processing! discussion forum.
DVD Verdict 459 - View from the Couch [11/11/2009]
Pull up a chair as Kent and Michelle talk about the importance of Remembrance and Veteran's Day, honoring the sacrifices made by men and women in uniform (and their families) around the world. It's a cavalcade of fun as Pixar releases two Blu titles, the CSI franchise goes crossover crazy, and Couch Entertainment News looks into rumors. Meanwhile, over at the Disney Vault, a look at the animated classic The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Email your questions, comments, and suggestions to Kent and Michelle or visit them at viewfromthecouch.com.

Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Thomas Newman and other talents offer selections from The Peacemaker, The Perfect Storm, Ocean's 13, Leatherheads, Intolerable Cruelty, Syriana and The Good German. Plus, the new Clooney-starring film The Men Who Stare at Goats is reviewed, in addition to Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol and Richard Kelly's The Box. Enjoy! Clark welcomes your comments, questions, and suggestions in Sounds and Sights Discussion Forum.
DVD Verdict 457 - The Friday Filibuster (My Face or Yours?)
It's all quiet on the roller derby front, so Dave, Mac, and Mike turn their attention towards little known NHL expansion teams, suffering fandom of awful sports teams, an unhealthy obsession with Mythbusters, intrigued by the reboot of V, catching up on Curb Your Enthusiasm, finding humor in the villainy of toxic waste dumpers, looking back on the quiet early career of Roland Emmerich, horror movies starring unusual deli meats, memorable face peels, and grisly appendage removals. Editor's Note: Please wait an hour after eating, before listening to this episode. Share your comments and questions in the new Filibuster discussion forum.
DVD Verdict 456 - Blast Processing! I'd Rather Be Vault Hunting
Erich, Dave, and Tim tear themselves away from a certain game. On the way to a mega-discussion about said secret game, the boys tackle the other titles they've been playing, including Dead Space: Extraction, World of Goo, and Uncharted 2. Following up on last week's Halloween podcast, Dave and Tim trade picks, giving their respective takes on Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space. This week's Symposium Ad Nauseum asks the hard-hitting question, "what counts as a vehicle?" Feel free to join the rest of the junkies in the new Blast Processing! discussion forum.
DVD Verdict 455 - View from the Couch [11/04/2009]
Got the post-Halloween blahs? Get a head start on the Yuletide season with Connor and Emily, as they review Rock 'N Learn: Physical Science and the animated Little Spirit: Christmas In New York. Kent and Michelle provide a medical lesson on H1N1 otherwise known as The Swine Flu, while extolling the virtues and mourning the cancellation of The Unit. Couch Entertainment News reports on The Hobbit, Sir Tony becoming a Norse god, The Lizard possibly headlining Spidey 4, and a few other tidbits to help you pass the time. To top it all off, Michelle gives her review of the biography Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination for all the Disney-philes. Email your questions, comments, and suggestions to Kent and Michelle or visit them at viewfromthecouch.com.

Share your comments and questions in the new Filibuster discussion forum.

Downhill
I still enjoy Sounds & Sights of Cinema, and the Friday Filibuster shows, but View from the Couch has added the most annoying, repetitive background muzak imaginable, making it virtually unlistenable. Shame. Submitted By: wexzdbpw@... (on 4-2009) |
