Excellent podcast.
Well, if you are looking for a podcast that carefully examines todays most popular medical garbage (oops, Im sorry... I meant complimentary and alternative medicine, lol), you have come to the right place. Learn the difference between skewed readings of meta-analyses and abstracts of clinical trials. Learn why some of these modalities cannot possibly work. Learn how going to a quack can harm you physically and financially. Learn how popular acceptance of these "magical" modes of healing can and will erode the credibility Science and the Scientific Method. Mark Crislip also does something that many dont do... in his preparations, he actually makes references to ACTUAL studies, listing the ACTUAL criteria for each step of the study mentioned. This is a great detail that is hard to refute. Quite often a woowoo proponent will say something like "Id like to see that study"... well, all you have to do is refer them to the study/studies mentioned by Dr. Crislip. Homeopathy: FAIL. Acupuncture: FAIL. Prayer: FAIL..... and on and on and on.... He also gives fair reporting where it is due, as in the cases of potential efficacy of certain herbs, etc., etc. So, if itll hurt you too much to know that you are being victimized by going to your local "Chi" adjuster or "Innate Intelligence" flow-improvement guru, please dont listen to this podcast. If, however, you do want to stand a better chance of actually recovering from an illness or condition, while also finally growing out of the sad sad state of being an adult who believes that magic can cure themselves, their neighbors and their children, then PLEASE do have a listen. People like Dr. Crislip are trying to save your lives, whether you like it or not. Submitted By: hanswwagner@... (on 7-2008) |
