p.s. I'm using a Zoom H2 Digital recorder and recording directly into it with my 3 co-hosts. The Results? We still need to tweak our audio somehow...

We have spent upwards of about $400 on our setup.... not counting computer (already had it) We are using a mixer with two mxl 990 condenser mics. We also use pop filters. With this setup we are getting a very clear sound in a non-studio setting (my bedroom). Not sure of your budget but good equipment sometimes = good sound.

I must justify it with my wife. I plan on upgrading in the near future and will probably spend on a new grinder 400 dollars and if I can swing it, I have been eyeing the S1 as the utimate upgrade. So I would say over 2 grand in the next year.

I'm using a Behringer xenyx 802 mixer and MXL 990 microphone. I also like to use a 6" pop screen which helps with plosives and helps me judge the distance between my mouth and the mic.
The mixer runs into a Nady CL-5000 compressor/expander (which works well, now that I halfway figured out what settings to use for the 14 knobs) and a Behringer UCA-202 to output everything into the computer via the USB input.

The computer is a home-built box with 2g RAM and and 2.2 mhz processor and the sound card is the generic one built into the motherboard. All the editing is done with Audacity.

My studio is a small office in my home and the only special things I do are to block off the computer (fan noise) with a furniture moving pad, record the show late in the day when no one is home and street noise is at a minimum and I make sure my chair doesn't make any noise. One of the most important things to me is as much soundproofing as possible. I find the compressor works best for my voice when the mixer output is up a bit. However that means the mic picks up otherwise barely noticeable ambient noise too which means the kids playing in the street are a problem, and with summer approaching it will get worse (hence the late recording time).

It all works pretty well for me and the only thing I would like to add is some kind of automatic level control. I know I can level the audio with Audacity but I want to do it in real-time. And maybe a phone hybrid if/when I ever do phone interviews. Maybe I'll spring for the extra equipment if my show ever makes a buck.

And I'd love to actually have a studio, and a soundproofed one at that. One bouncing basketball or a car out in the street and I used to have to start all over. Maybe if I hang a blanket over the window I can drop the threshold and raise the mixer level a bit more so the whispered parts won't be cut off.

BTW, you have a good show. Great sound quality and a good mix between the speakers. If you had any unwanted sounds there, I didn't hear it.

I do not spend much on equipments if I tend to save more buy buying others that are brandless il go as long it has the same performance why not.I disagree. Although most equipment does the same thing, there are differences in quality, workmanship and reliability that you see in most name brand equipment but not in nonbranded products.

Sometimes, you might find a great deal on good quality generic equipment, I have occasionally found some myself, but most times it's a pig-in-a-poke situation and often you just end up with junk.
