Hi.

I've been talking about setting up a podcast with friends for a while and we have finally decided to take the plunge. We are all fairly tech savvy when it comes to software as we are 2 graphic designers ad 2 programmers and have plenty of Macs and PCs between us.

Basically we will record all in one room and would like to record each voice to a separate channel so that it will be easier to edit.

I assume we need some kind of mixer or something with knobs on that would allow us to record 4 channels of audio onto one PC or Mac.

We don't have that much spare cash to pool to get this and mics so we are looking for a beginners set up that we could upgrade parts as we progress.

I have seen these on eBay but as I have no idea about this kind of hardware, can some let me know if this will do the job.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to record each voice to a separate channel, a mixer is the opposite of what you want. A mixer mixes a larger number of channels down to a smaller number of channels.

It's true that a larger mixer with a sufficient number of ALT sends can produce a separate output for each voice, but that's not your issue. From what you describe, you're looking for a computer interface (sound card, whatever...) that will accept (and record) multiple channels at the same time. Your editing and mixing would then be done in the computer.

There are a number of options out there. You want something with at least 4 mic inputs. Look at some of the stuff from Echo or MOTU. Avoid anything with the word Behringer on it.

Hope that helps.
