Okay, maybe some of the more "audio technical" people can help me out with this. I'm not a huge fan of registering for a forum and begging for help but I've scouted around Google for a good day now and I've found nothing.
Basically, my Mic sounds like crap when we record through Skype. There's an option in PowerGramo (a program for recording Skype calls that I purchased because we needed to record conference calls) that allows me to adjust my mic's "power level" so to speak. Well, the default level is 100, and I'm putting mine up to 1000-1200 JUST so I can sound on par with everyone else who is coming in at 100. The issue with that is it causes the occassional "PC Lag", at least according to the podcast, and if I get TOO loud on my end it simply starts sounding like static on a television... like somebody is stepping all over a bunch of popcorn pieces left on the ground and it's just a big crunchy sounding mess. Unfortunately, this primarily happens if I laugh or find something funny, and since my co-hosts are funny guys, this happens pretty often between the three of us. I believe that issue stems from boosting the audio recording to such a high level though.
Anyways... back on track. Here's where things get weird.
I can record my audio in PowerGramo's "offline sound recorder" and I sound fine. I can record my audio in Adobe Audition and I sound great, I'm sure I could use the general windows sound recorder and I'd be fine too. Also, I come in perfectly fine when talking on Skype. They say I'm louder and/or as loud as the two of them when we're talking. The quality ONLY seems to degrade when we're recording off MY PC via PowerGramo which is recording our Skype conversation. This doesn't happen for my co-hosts, one of which has recorded from PowerGramo before and he sounds totally fine during it with no loss in volume quality.
Here are some differences between the co-hosts and I:
They are both using Laptops with Line Microphones plugged right into the little pink jack in the back of their laptops. I'm recording from a desktop NADY USB Mic of professional quality that I just recently purchased and I'm using a PC.
With all of this being said, can anybody more or less figure out what could be the cause of this? If it's hardware related, setting related, or what? I'd like to blame PowerGramo but since my co-hosts don't have this issue I don't think I can simply lay the blame on the program.
