Is there a tool that will remove duplicate files from a hard drive? Because I download a lot of music both karaoke and regular and because a lot of cd's both karaoke and regular have duplicate songs on them i end up with a load of duplicates on my hard drives taking up room.
Is there a software or downloadable tool that will go through my hard dives and remove duplicate songs?

dupeGuru - music edition 5.5.0 is one that will search for files that have names that are even similar - not matching exactly. http://www.vista-files.org/programs/hardcoded-software/dupeguru-music-edition.html
DoubleKiller is another stnad-alone application. I've not used either, but I've heard of them.

I had a lot of duplicates of musical files on my PC. I used to delete duplicate files duplicate music finder (http://www.fileutilityblog.com/archives/228), which is called Clone Remover. It is a usefull program for all files, not only music. May be, it will solve your problem.
Good luck!

So did you ever decide on a software? I'd like to know what you decided to get and how you liked it.

Hi,
I found clone tool as one of the very effective tool to identify the duplicate files and folder by byte by byte scan on all duplicate files and folders, this is the only way to know for sure that the files are identical.
But it does not allow you to delete the last copy of any file.

There are some programmes for XP to find duplicate files. I used to delete music duplicate file (http://www.fileutilityblog.com/archives/213) I used the programme Clone Remover for such aim. It helped me. And not only for music files. For pictures, music and a lot of others. Now it is more free place on my PC :)
Good luck!

Has anyone found free software for this? I usually open the folder, sort by name, and look for duplicates that way, but it is so slow doing it this way.
