I have a podcast with my brother and we would like to use SKYPE to call people and conduct interviews. When we plug both microphones in and make a call, however, only the audio from one of them comes across. Is this simply a setting that needs to be changed, or do we need to buy some hardware for the problem?

I do my podcast with two mics and use Skype to call people (or more than one person) and interview them.

How are you connecting up your mics? I have a small board that I can plug in multiple mics. I change those settings so that I can raise the levels of the two mics that I connect to it and it works fine.

Here's what you need to do:

You'll need a mixer. I am using an Alesis MultiMix 8 with USB.
You'll also need at least two computers.
You're microphones are also going to need to be XLR pro mics.

This is my setup:

I have a RCA audio to 1/8 inch cable. The RCA audio goes in to my mixer and the 3.5 inch goes in to my computer's headphone jack.

I also have a stereo patch cable (1/8 inch male-to-male) and a 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch stereo adapter. This goes between my computer's microphone jack and an aux send on my mixer.

The aux send on my mixer is sending a mix-minus, excluding the output of the computer. This takes care of echo.

Then, I use a second 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch stereo adapter and connect it to the headphone jack on my mixer. I attach a headphone splitter to this, and connect two headphones.

You'll both be heard and you both will also be able to hear the skype line.

Expect to spend $300-$400 if you don't already have a mixer and XLR mics.

This all boils down to the number of sound cards you have. A decent quality USB mixer and two or three sound cards should to the trick. On my podcast set up I use two PCs, one of which has 3 sound cards and one Behringer USB mixer. My partner is never here when we record our shows, he is 30 miles away on Skype.
