View Full Version : Podpress is dead. Here's what you can do.

After posting a new show last night, I woke up to discover that the Podpress WP plugin has finally bit it. The plugin hasn't been updated in a long, long time, their support forums are 404, and the developer keeps blogging about how he's too busy to work on his hacky, patchy code.

Everybody on the newest version of WP is going to have this problem, and here's the easiest fix:

-Get and install powerpress (http://www.blubrry.com/powerpress/).

The plugin is much cleaner, and grabs most of your settings right out of podpress. All I had to change on mine was my iTMS URL, and tell it to update all of my old posts made with podpress. It did it perfectly, and everything is fixed within five minutes of installing the plugin.

I've been considering using this plugin but holding off on it, as well as upgrading to Wordpress 2.7 until the author updated it. If it is dead, that is truly too bad... I was planning on doing a tutorial on installing it but I suppose there's no point. Maybe a tutorial on switching to powerpress (or another alternative?) would be more appropriate?

Darn. I've been suspecting this was going to happen. I hadn't checked over there for a long time. I never upgraded the blog for my personal podcast to 2.5 because of the podpress issues, and now I'm way behind on upgrading. I'd been thinking of blowing things up and restarting with the Blubrry podcasting plugin, but maybe I'll try this one. Or, maybe I'll just keep that blog at WP 2.3. Not hurting anything where it is.
