I need to update a few seconds of recording in a podcast that I currently have out there. So the mp3 will now have a new modified date. How does iTunes handle that when someone has a subscription and has already downloaded that mp3 to their local iTunes? Can I just place the updated mp3 out there without changing anything?

Does iTunes re-download the mp3 with the new modified date and replace the old mp3 that people have already downloaded to their local iTunes? And if so, will it also update on their mp3 players when they sync?

And for the listing in iTunes Store, does the link just point to the mp3 on my server (so I don't need to do anything else?) Or do I need to update my podcast on W#rdPress blog?

Some of the technical points:
I use W#rdPr#ss and F##dburner and store the mp3 on my own server. I have an srtist page on iTunes that lists all my podcasts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

iTunes for podcasts is only essentially a feed reader. iTunes does not store a copy of the file. The podcast files that are downloaded are being downloaded from your web server. So, whatever is on your web server is what they receive.

Will iTunes see that there's an updated podcast out there and RE-download it though? And if iTunes re-downloads it, how will it react for people who have already downloaded it.

I am trying to avoid issues with our users who are already subscribed.

Thanks

Does anyone know what would happen if the podcast has already been downloaded to the user but the mp3 is updated? Will iTunes see that there's a modified file out there and go pick that one up as well? and will it overwrite the original mp3/podcast on the user's player?

I was told this was one of the better podcast forums out there, but no one seems to know the answer to my question. Surprising.
