I have a .cda file of a radio interview that I was on that I would like to edit and make into a podcast using a windows machine. Can you please tell me the best way to do this?

Thanks-

Without the actual CD that the interview was on, you're out of luck. A .cda file is merely a shortcut ("pointer") to a file on a CD.

Wikipedia has a pretty simple explanation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_Audio_track_shortcut)

Sorry.

Thanks Eric but I do have the CD. What do I need to do next?

Thanks again-

Do you know what track it is? If so, then copy the file from the CD (not the .cda) to your hard drive. Since you initially used a .cda file, I'm assuming you're running a Windows computer. You can use Windows Media Player 11 (and higher) to rip the track from CD. Here's the instructions in their knowledge base (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto/mp11/rip.aspx).

For future reference, a search of Google for "copying cd tracks to windows (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=copying+cd+tracks+to+windows&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)" gave the MS link as it's third hit. As much as I like to help other people, or to see this forum active, I also hate to see someone wait around for an answer that is easily found elsewhere.

Good luck,

Eric

Thanks again. I know how to rip a cd but how do I create the podcast from it?
Thanks

Ah, I see. Well hopefully you can understand my confusion. Your first question seemed to be related to converting a .cda file, which is not something you generally use in audio editing, so I assumed you didn't know how to rip a CD.

As far as podcasting, you need 3 basic things: Audio editing and mp3 conversion software, such as Audacity; a (web site) hosting account; and a way to generate an RSS 2.0 feed (such as many standard blogs provide).

Keep in mind that just because you put some audio files on your website, it doesn't make it a podcast. It's the RSS feed coupled with a portable file format (mp3, mp4) that is what turns a website's audio file into a "podcast." If all you want to do is host the interview on your website (and don't intend any other episodic programs related to it), then you don't need to worry about making a podcast, setting up the RSS feed or blogging software.
