Sorry if this has been posted before, but I didn't find in a search.. I have just recently gotten into hosting my own internet radio show which I am also podcasting the archive of and have been learning Audacity at a slow rate, but I am running into a few problems.

1) I just recently bought a new condenser mic that I then run through a mic mate so that I can plug in USB and do audio bites when my producer is not around to get them done. The problem that I am having is that I would like to be able to hear what I am saying while I record it, and so far have not been able to get Audacity to do that. Is there a way to configure Audacity correctly so that it possible?

2) When I do record on this mic using Audacity, the audio won't playback. It recognizes the levels, but no playback. I have to record with Windows Sound Recorder and then import the file into Audacity so that I can add effects and such. Am I doing something wrong?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. I am trying not to rely on my Producer as much.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi there.

I'll take a stab at the second question, and if I manage to solve the first one in my own travels I'll let you know.

Under Preferences in the Edit menu, is your Playback device set properly?

Please try to check the playback device. I mean is it selected correctly?

Hi, I confess that I don't use Audacity but I do have it here. It does look as though your settings are incorrect within Audacity, for your sound card.
If you go to Edit-Preferences (ctr+P) then go to the first tab, Audio I/O. Firstly check your recording and playback options are set to you sound card and also that the two boxes below are checked (enabling the "new track to play while recording it").
Good luck!

No sure if I understand what you want - but some points.

I wouldn't want to hear what I was recording - because there WILL be a short delay - and it's very difficult to talk when you get that sort of feedback.

On Audacity there is the option to record from 'mike' OR from 'wave' (wave will be basically audio from your sound card) it won't do both at the same time.

To make a local recording I use vEmotion - or with Skype you can get 'Pamela' although the free version will only record for 15 minutes.

Sorry if that's not very helpful.

Cheers, daveac
