How to Podcast with Skype WELL?

Does anybody know a good and reliable way to podcast with skype? I heard about skype recorders or all the people in the podcast panel recording themselves and then sending all the tracks to 1 person, the editor to put them together. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Does anyone know what software people use to do this?

I recommend on the Mac using Call Recorder to do this. I have not done it on Windows but I believe HotRecorder will do the trick.

I also have used Ubercaster (http://www.ubercaster.com/) to record skype calls, but find it buggy and prone to crashes.

On windows you might try Pamela (http://www.pamela-systems.com/)

You could record your end of the call in audacity, but you would need a way to route the skype audio into Audacity to record the whole call.

Ubercaster has gotten a lot better lately, and is what I use exclusively now. I even use it to record our voicemails left on Skype.

But, I only use the Audiochat recording as a backup. I have anyone on the show record locally, then output to .wav/.aiff, then convert to .mp2 and upload to my FTP.

I've heard numerous problems result from double-enders (where everyone sends you their individual file). Audio is terrible if one person's recording quality is considerably lower than the others, for example.

I do a show twice a week, about an hour each episode, using a mix-minus setup. (My co-host is in the UK, I'm in the San Francisco Bay area.) We are often praised on the quality of the podcast.

I have all of my hosts record their end of the conversation locally, using Audacity, Garageband, or Ubercaster (or whatever else you use to record.)

Then, they output the file as .wav (Windows) or .Aif/.Aiff (Mac).

Take that file, and convert to .mp2 with this free tool.

They upload those files to my FTP, I grab them, reconvert to .Aiff using Audacity. I edit everything in an uncompressed format. It doesn't get compressed to .mp3 until the very end.

I usually sync all of the files in Ubercaster, since I have my backup recording that I can use as a reference for the other tracks, no matter how many I have. I then output ONLY the vocals to .Aiff, so I have one, single voice track to edit (makes life quite simple.)

If I have voicemails or sound clips, I take that single track back into Ubercaster and output everything else along with the vocal tracks.

I edit in Garageband, then output to .mp3 from there.

**Convert to .MP2 (There are apps for Windows and Mac):
Right-click and save on whichever version you need (Windows or Mac)

Install the program. There are no options to set.

Once it's installed, it will setup 2 icons on your desktop (in Windows)

You'll never need PRX Audio Uploader, you need to open PRX Audio Encoder. Drag the .wav file over PRX, and it will create an .mp2 file in the same folder that the old one was in.

Here's a good example of the quality you can get. 2 of us are in Wisconsin, Martin is in Japan. This was all done via Skype.

I've used MX Skype Recorder with success, but I've just started.

Two key things to remember:

Make sure you have it set up to save as .WAV if you plan to import the file into an audio editor and play with it. (For example, I import mine into Audacity and clean up the ummmms and ahhhhhs and cut out flubs.) If you're not going to do any post-production edit, you can set it up to save as .MP3

So far I can't find a way to start it manually. I can set it up so that it starts when the Skype call starts, but if I stop it and then decide to record some more, I have to hang up and restart the Skype conversation. I just sent a question in to MX Skype Recorder support to ask how to start it manually. Will post when I get the answer.

Here is a free Skype recorder. It records at 128 MP-3 and produces separate tracks (true stereo) that solves some of the balance problems.

Not quite as versatile as pamela....but it is free.

For $99 you can get a Behringer 802 mixer with USB adapter (and microphone and some other goodies) from B&H.
Then google (or search youtube) for Skype mix minus. You will need a few extra cables but it is totally doable with a mixer and no special software. You can even record you and the other person into separate channels (L and R) for easy editing later.

Plus this will work just fine if you are recording into an audio recorder... no computer required (other than the one for skype).

Hey Guys,
I got the new Yeti mic from Blue and it has the zero latency monitoring headphone jack built in.

How can I use this so i can hear myself but also hear the computer's audio through the headphones, all while recording it all? I tried line in, soundflower, hijack but no luck. any thoughts?

I think my only option is using WireTap and playing itunes or skype through my output jack using iPod headphones then using noise canceling headphones over top those to hear my mic.
