Can I record while playing sound effects without using a mixer?

Just wondering if there is a software program for pc that will allow me to play audio files during recording, or will I have to buy a mixer?

I have only just started trying the software, but Podcast station allows you to play any sound effect or audio files you like while recording as well as fade music in and out....a great program so far that has a 30 day free trial. I have found it to be very easy to use. I do think that if you want more than one microphone to record then you will need a mixer for the various voices being recorded....I think......I am still waiting for an answer about that from the company that makes the software.
