hmmm.. I am not sure too because that is the statement or question that my tutor gave to me. My assignment is to get everybody's opinion on latest development and trend in Rss/Podcasting. After which I need to make a report on it.

Perhaps you might want to do your research and find out what the latest developments and trends ARE, and then come back and ask us what we think are the most important, and why we think they are the most important.
Again ... we're not doing all of your work for you, but I'm sure some folks here would be happy to help by providing opinions.

i think the latest developments in podcasting and rss is the way ads are delivered.
google has added contextual ads to video and RSS feeds via feedburner, and more and more podcasts are getting mainstream attention and getting sponsorhsip from real companies.
i dunno i hope that helps bud

I would agree with Achilles. Monetization is an important (and hopefully forthcoming) development in the RSS and podcasting world. It has been for a long time.
Hypothetically, it lets people who own their feeds make money from them. Of course, there's also room for great abuse, since most advertisers will go to companies like Feedburner who control the feeds -- but at least you still own the source.
Then there's companies like Mevio and Revvr, who own and serve feeds, rather than the producer. What is their obligation to you and your audience if you leave their hosting behind?
The trick is finding the balance in revenue sharing for all of the options. Currently, revenue sharing is very heavily weighted towards those running the networks (the Google's, Mevio's and Revvr's of the world). Some (like me) would say it's too heavily weighted towards them, and not enough towards their producers. The networks tell their advertisers that viral content can't make money, that there are finite options for quality entertainment on the 'net; and yet they don't seem to want to split the revenue equally enough to allow their quality producers to continue to create and improve their programs. Eventually that short-term greed will cost them, but for now they're making enough to keep their investors happy.

i dont know about the core audiance, but me as a listener, i dont mind ads at all, ESPECIALLY when the host serves them up. I mean i have lived with commercials for 21 years and having a couple ads in a podcast its so refreshing, and usually they are targeted (ie. godaddy, cachefly, stuff like that) so they are useful
