Hello,

Just a quick question. I'm in the need for a some artwork for my podcast. Just the usual things really; itunes friendly logo, branding for the website and a book cover (it's an audio book). Without a pot to wee in, I can't afford to pay pro rates, so does anyone of a resource where I can advertise for an artist(s) to help out in exchange for credits/exposure and bartering?

I've only come across 99designs so far but thats a little out of budget.

Cheers,
Colin.

Asking here is a good idea, but I would also look off-line for help. Do you have a local college or technical school in your area? Students may be willing to help you out in exchange for a reference or as a resume builder.

Another suggestion I would make is to think outside the box when it comes to designing your artwork. A logo is an important branding tool, but it doesn't have to be the focus of your podcast's artwork (although it would be wise to incorporate it, or elements of it into it). For example, are you good with a still camera? Is it possible to capture a photo that represents the theme or scope of your podcast?

Are you able to barter or exchange services with a podcaster who does their own work? Book podcasts can be hot, and their fans are usually pretty rabid, so promo spots on your show or website might get you artwork; or if you've got a unique voice, cutting intros or stingers might be another option in exchange for art.

I'd offer to help you out myself, but my plate's pretty full. We're redesigning our website and I've got seven headers, some sidebar artwork, and some page themes to work out by the end of May (along with a few other things not podcast related).

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into some of those. I have a college on my doorstep, I use their gym regularly, so I'll have a word there and see if I can put an ad up somewhere.

With regards to promo's. I've not yet reseached this area, but a quick question as it has occured to me: How long should promo's be?

I generally recommend making two promos -- one 15 second and one 30 second. They don't have to be EXACTLY those times ... 14 seconds and 29 seconds won't keep them from being played.
