View Full Version : Blubrry to charge for stats?

I noticed for the first time today while looking at the Blubrry stats list of where my downloads were coming from, there's a link at the bottom that says "full list". When I clicked on the link, it said "This feature is only available to Premium Statistics users only."
I suspect they'll still offer the free version -- perhaps in the form that it is right now -- and then offer additional details like this to the premium users.
Has anyone heard anything about this? Has it been there all along and I missed it? I dug around the site and couldn't find any info on it.

I don't use Blubrry, so I wouldn't know. Do you host your files there?

Nah. I'm in their directory of course, and I use their stats service.

Is there stats service anything like Feedburner's, or is it just measuring the info from their service?

They're more like Podtrac, if you're familiar with that. Feedburner only counts feed downloads. With Podtrac and Blubrry, you put a redirect in your download URLs. and whenever the file is downloaded, it pings them and they count it. It's slightly more complicated than that, but that's the basic idea. They're able to count file accesses using a Flash mp3 player, or downloads through the feed.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Podtrac (uhg)! Okay, that makes sense. I look forward to the day when measuring stats for a podcast is as easy as subscribing to them!

I actually use both Podtrac and Blubrry for measurement these days. The system is working for me. Generally, their numbers are similar.

I didn't have a problem with Podtrac's stats... just their survey (at the time, the questions seemed focused on selling beer ads), and their odious customer service.

Ditto on the survey and customer service. Both horrible.

The free service will remain but we have publicly been talking about the plus package for qute some time. If you are getting our newsletters you will have received info on it.

Thanks, geeknews. I try to limit the amount of non-business email in my inbox, so I'm sure I never volunteered to receive your newsletter.
Just found a Blubrry blog post on this topic ... posted today (http://blog.blubrry.com/2008/05/06/some-great-improvements-in-our-stats-service/). Pretty much as I expected.
