Dear users,

I am looking to move my feed from podshow to my own server.
Like this:
www.mydomain.com/feed.xml.

How can I do this and still keep all my subscribers from iTunes and so on? Has anyone else done this?

Thanks,
Dave

Not really a way to do it that I know of, if your feed address is changing. That's one of the arguments for using Feedburner -- you can change your feed address as many times as you like, but your Feedburner address stays the same.

The feed will have to change but as my colleague pointed out, you can and should use FeedBurner to make it permanent from here on out. I would suggest putting one last short episode on your old feed directing your listeners to your new site and new feed, and you can be fairly confident that your regulars will follow you.

Good way to do it. You'll surely lose some subscribers in the short term, but hopefully they'll find you at the new feed URL eventually.

I understand that I should have used feedburner and I regret it deeply. But do you think there is any way that podshow would allow me to add the itunes <itunes:new-feed-url> to my feed?

They've done it in the past, but to be honest, the person I know of that did get the code entered had to make a helluva stink to get them to do it. Some phrases you might want to add to your lexicon for a LAST RESORT public showdown would be:

"Podshow is hijacking my feed!"

"AC (Adam Curry) always said a podcaster's feed is theirs! Is he lying?!?"

"PodShow is stealing my audience!"

"PodShow won't let me edit my feed!"

Hopefully you can tell that I'm being (mostly) facetious. You should only make a fuss as a last resort. But do keep in mind, you may have to. They've got a lot of eggs in their basket and one podcaster (who should have done more research) wanting to change their feed is not going to be high on their priority list.

This is one important reason NOT to do business with a podcasting host when you start, but rather roll your own, until you're big enough to have some leverage when negotiating a possible contract with a podcasting host. You don't need them, but they want you, and may offer you something in return.
