Hello!

I'd welcome a little advice...

I'm a total novice in podcasting but I'm researching fast.

I'm considering what equipment to buy to get started.

One thing... my pc fan blows quite loud and I think it may be picked up in any recording I do sitting at my pc.

Is there any way round this e.g. ways to record while not sitting at the pc or equipment to counteract the fan noise?

PS Be as basic as you want- I'm only beginning! ;-)

Thank you in advance.

You essentially have two options: Eliminate the noise or remove it from the recording.

The first option is FAR better. You may want to consider buying a new fan, or a new power supply (If that's the fan that's causing the issue). Or, move the computer as far away as possible (Say behind a closed door, but not a closet which could cause overheating). Or, use a different computer if that's possible.

The second option is doable, but will degrade the quality of your recording. Depending on the software you use there are different specifics, but in general you can use either (or both in lower amounts) Noise Removal or a High Pass Filter.

The specifics get muddy but a high pass at 300 or so, or a noise removal set as low as possible with a good sample of the fan noise to work with should do a decent enough job, and cost nothing but time (something that most podcasters, myself included, have more of than money!)

But, I must reiterate, nothing will do as good a job as eliminating that noise in the first place!
