View Full Version : I think Radiotail Ripple is dead

Most of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but Ripple by Radiotail was another attempt at the "build a stats service and get advertising deals for podcasters" service. The stats were fairly good, and updated nearly in real time. I used them for a while. Their claim was that they could auto insert ads at the beginning of your older shows.

Unfortunately, I found a couple of problems with their stats and despite repeated efforts I couldn't get anyone to respond to my questions. Their customer service was completely nonexistent. It's like no one actually worked there.

I tried to log in just for curiosity sake this morning, since some of my older episodes still have their redirect on them, but even though their site is still there, it no longer has a way to log in. I suspect they couldn't get the ad deals, since no one was actually using their service. Of course, completely and utter lack of customer service didn't help them at all.

I've lost count of all the dead and dying innovative (and self-proclaimed innovative) services that hoped to profit from the "Long Tail."

Looking ahead, I can even see the shadow on the horizon of one or two more, both beloved (http://www.podcastpickle.com/) and very useful (http://www.triyo.com).

I guess it's just not podcasts that fade...

I don't know much if anything about the latter of the two you mentioned, but I have sadly agree about the former. It was sort of fading, and that forum outage they had seemed to take whatever wind they had out of their sails. It's a shame. There aren't enough ACTIVE podcaster message boards out there. Honestly, the only two that I'm aware of are this one and the one you mentioned. Blubrry has a message board, but no one ever goes there.

I hear the Yahoo! Podcaster group is pretty popular, but it's kind of skewed to the big names. It's also formatted like a newsgroup (at least it used to be).

Thanks for the recommendation. I appreciate it. I checked it out and it really looks to be less active than this forum. I actually prefer the message board format to the newsgroup format anyhow.

I'm surprised it's less active. It used to be pretty hopping. Of course, I haven't looked into it in quite awhile, since I also prefer a forum set up to the newsgroup set-up.

I think the last time I was there the mood was somewhat acrimonious because of the whole Rocketboom/Amanda Congdon blow-up.
