Hello me and my friends are starting a podcast, and we cant figure out how to configure it so that audio that you play on the computer like snippets of audio (drops), can be recorded. We are using audacity. We have tried getting a cord and pluging it in the the computers output and then back into the computers input but that didnt work for some reason... any suggestions on how to get files you play on your computer to be recorded?
(no, we do not want to add them in later, my friend is to lazy)

I just add them in ...
oh. Never mind.
You could aim a mic at the computer. Yes, I've done it and yes, it sounds like garbage, and yes, it works.

Load them on an iPod or other mp3 player, and then run the output to the computer? That could work. Honestly, it seems like more trouble than adding them afterward.

If you're on a Mac, LineIn and SoundFlower (both freeware). You tap the audio source inside your computer (presumably system audio) with LineIn to SoundFlower, and use SoundFlower as your input source in Audacity.
I don't know of any such software in Windows. Perhaps it exists, but then it might not.

yeah the best way is to load the audio on to an ipod or mp3 player and use a mixing board to hook it all up.

Use PodProducer instead.
http://www.podproducer.net/
I discovered it captures ALL audio on the host at the same time by default. And its free. And it has other cool features you'll like.
