Hi Guys,

I am looking too start up a podcast about local bands. It will feature a little music and interviews with musicians. I am looking to phone the musician and interview them. So my question is what equipment and software would I need to do such a show. See the thing is I have a logitech usb headset, would this be feasbile for what I want to do. And I also have a mixer which I purchased as a bundle from behringer. So my question is what is the best way to go. Is it possible for me to ring up the musician and interview them on the line. If so how do most people do that, do they use skype or other recording software. So basically i'm looking to interview them on the phone and I also might have other segments on the show that also might be done via the phone. And also what software does anyone recommend.

So i'm looking for a bit of advice and I am a novice so any recommedations would much be appreciated.

Kind Regards

If you're doing a show about local musicians I recommend having them come in to interview with you. A show with less than acceptable sound quality is hard to listen to, and if both parties in an interview have low quality sound then many people will tune out.

I have a show similar to your concept. (haveyouheard.net) The last episode we did had a band over and even then it wasn't the best quality because musicians have different mic technique than radio people.

Here's what we use:
Mac Pro
Cubase (software editing / music track mixing)
Sure SM7b's
Tubefire audio interface

If you're not as concerned about sound quality then I think you should look into a service called TalkShoe. They're doing exactly what you described, but honestly I don't recommend it.
