View Full Version : Am I Making Futuristic Podcasts?

I'd appreciate any compliments and suggestions.

I started last year with AMERICAN ZEN BUDDHIST ROCK PODCAST (http://www.CoyoteRadio.net).

I just posted episode 33.

I tried some unusual techniques in the beginning like lots of periods.........to break up items in the podcast directories that were insensitive to my HTML coding.

I've evolved my HTML to look pretty good on the BLOG pages. I hope this will be especially beneficial with my newest podcast,
(http://folkrockpodcast.libsyn.com) which will feature new folk rock bands each week.

Why don't directories, like Podcast Alley, utilize the HTML in the listings?

If I write the text for NON HTML directories, I would write more sentences and do less lists.

So, what is the future? Will my HTML be visible in all directories...including iTUNES?

Sincerely,
Richard

Most likely not in iTunes. Apple is very protective over how their products look and feel. They want your content to look how they want it, and to be honest so do I. Nobody does user interfaces like Apple does. Simpe is better in this case.

Also, html can be dangerous to let on your site. There are filters to scrub out "evil" html but it's easier to display it just as text.

Depending on what you use (I use wordpress and podpress) you can get around this a bit by doing an all-text summary of your show before all the HTML. Check out my show page for Volcanicast (http://podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=49045) to see what I'm talking about. 95% of my show notes are pure HTML. The remaining 5% is at the very top and is a couple-line teaser/summary of the show. If people want to see the rest of the show notes, they can come to the page.

I should probably put a link to the show notes inside themselves, inside a comment, so people can copy/paste it into their browser easily.

I use this technique all the time - noticed some real difference - always getting great traffic. So, your idea will definitely work, Yotto.
