I've been approached by PodShow to possibly produce a project for them. Some of my friends are more wary of them than I.

Would you recommend I work with them? Why or why not?

I say sit down and talk it out. It never hurts to talk. It also doesn't hurt to be wary of whom you're talking to.

Podshow's a company. Neither good nor evil. Despite a talented and gifted staff, who from most accounts will bend over backwards to help you out, Podshow is first and foremost a company with a responsibility to their investors and their bottom line. You need to think of yourself in those terms as well.

I personally correspond with paid PodShow talent, and they love the company, and PodShow loves them! PodShow has helped them out immensely, and can definitely be a quick boost to help you reach your goals. However, you need to realize that if PodShow wants to work with you, you are probably able to reach your goals without them... it just may take longer, and be a lot more work. Who knows? They may have a great offer for you. Just keep in mind that PodShow isn't the only one with something to offer. If they were, it wouldn't be called a negotiation.

Yep. Another thing that's come to mind is that you can sometimes tell a company by the people they hire. We were recently approached by a company (not PodShow) who hires reps that seem to get defensive when you ask them tough questions or tell them something doesn't look like a fair trade -- and frankly, it's not for that much money. The only thing going for them is that they aren't exclusive, and they have a strong PR Dept. Still, the give and take leaves a sour taste in my mouth, since they would rather talk about Alexis rankings than what the average pay-out to a producer is. Now, if PodShow won't talk those numbers with you, be very careful about signing with them!

By contrast, we actually signed with a company (http://www.videopodcastchannels.com) to sell ads in our podcast ("exclusively") that takes the time to answer our questions, does not get defensive about them, and has a couple of good sponsorship leads that could prove lucrative to us. They even let us work out secondary deals in markets that they don't (or won't) work in.

You can see the differences between the two companies, and which one is favorable to work with. One is obviously only in it for their bottom line, and the other is planning for mutual success. They "get" that sites and networks need good content more than some of us need a place to put that content; and as such, sometimes you have to negotiate to get it. Hopefully PodShow "gets" it, and you'll have a great new opportunity coming your way.

It depends in what capacity they're asking you to do work.

If it's paid production work, and you're not signing your life away on some insane contract, maybe it's good?

Since they're a big company, they can afford to pay you what you're worth.

Don't sign a nightmare.

There's no shame in working for podshow if it's a good job and they're treating you right.

Eric, I'm curious, are you still able to sell your own sponsor spots independently from that company you're working with?

I'm just thinking outloud.

We have been signing some good ad campaign deals on our own and I wondered if deals like these can be made on your own in arrangement like you have with that ad company?

Well, we're actually required to let them sell the ads on the podcast itself. We're not precluded from finding sponsors or talking to them, but the negotiations are left up to them. Of course, that's just for online sales. For terrestrial broadcast/cable/satellite we can handle that on our own. To tell the truth, I'm glad someone else is handling the negotiations. After talking to several people, I think our tendency would have been to sell ourselves low if left to find sponsors on our own.

Something unusual to the deal is that we have a kill switch that says that after a certain amount of time, if they can't do what they say they can, we can walk away. We don't think that will be necessary, but we're glad we asked for it, and glad they agreed to it.

As it is, we're about a week or so away from a very likely ad deal. It won't be huge, but it will be way better than all the other formulas and schemes we've been approached with. It'll mean some nice production quality boosts, and maybe even some left over cash for ourselves.

There are also some other irons in the fire a little further off, and I have no idea what will happen with those, but so far things look promising.

I know the mods are busy, but Ive sent a PM to two. Nothing urgent, but just curious as to why Im not getting responses. I mean, maybe theres something technically wrong? Or, how long do mods normally take? Again, not urgent and not trying to be mean, just wondering...

The mods here are unusually busy from what I can see. That or they need more mods. The people with the high post counts (possibly moderators) don't seem to post much any more. Either way, the only thing I can suggest is that you could throw the question out to the general membership if it's not specific to the actual website or forum management.

My WT and SH scores havent updated for ages. WT not since last May, SH never. Funny thing is though it has my progress and rankings.I sent two emails months and months ago to an address that was in one of the stickies but I got no response.Anyone know what the prblem is?

Are there any site admins that can help out on this or do you have any advice on anything we can try that might update our stats? My sats havent updated for over a month on GHWT. Looks like Im not the only one seeing this happen.

Ive played GHWT several times in the last few weeks and my stats are not updating on the site for GHWT oddly GHVH is updating. It shows my last online play as 12-4. Is there something I can do to get WT to update? Im logged in online when I play...a lot of co-op and Face Off... If anyone can help me out that would be great.Thanks

I use the word "spammer" to mean the people we get here trying to sell crap and/or to entice people to visit Russian websites that I wouldn't click on with somebody ELSES computer. The law of averages would indicate that at least some of them would be phishing or malware sites and I often warn people to avoid them.

I like this forum, and I wouldn't want to see it get a bad name as regards dangerous links.

But I also see people who post nonsense just to pad their post counts as spammers too.

Nickis sister,Im sure Ronnie will weigh in on this, but it does sound like PTSD or at the least depression, which is a very typical reaction to the kind of trauma that you have been through. We often suggest to survivors that they see their family doctor, and it may be that you could use a therapist and/or a psychiatrist as well. Do not let this go thinking you will feel better. You very well could feel better with time, but it is not wise to take the chance. There are some wonderful medications that will help you get through this, it may take trial and error to find the right one for you, but there is no shame in taking something to ease the burden on your mind.
