Well after recording my first two podcasts on a USB mic, I have my mixer up and running. I was in a band and it had fallen off our PA system and broken the volume on channel one which introduced a nice hum into the entire thing. After getting bored and deciding "Hey, I'll fix it" I ordered the volume knob pot and last night soldered it into my mixing board. Volia! Works like a charm...
Now to only find out that my computers integrated soundcard has a nasty grounding problem which introduces a good amount of signal noise. I could either pull out the sound card from my old computer (a SB Live card thats a few years old) or live with it and use noise reduction along with a noise gate I already have. Either way a hassle...
What has been your guys latest techincal problem? A shits and giggles thread.

Let's see, I had a wireless mic with a lavalier that sounded pretty good. A few months ago it went missing. Been experimenting with a couple of brands of admittedly cheap lavs as a replacement. The dynamic of the mics sucked, with the sound always too hot.
Finally broke down and bought a nice lavalier mic a month ago and loved it. Went on a job to Atlanta and brought along two wireless mic kits. Both transmitters and their mics were stolen! Now I'm back to less than square one, as I now have to buy two new wireless set-ups (the stolen ones were old, so I doubt I'll be able to find reliable replacements for the transmitters) and new lavs. Again!

I had a very similar problem, and found the Behringer UCA202 (http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHUCA202) to be great. I'm not suggesting zzounds, that's just the first place I found it. I don't remember where I got mine and have never used zzounds.
Others have suggested the Griffin iMic (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=361EEAA5&nplm=TF815LL/A) for the same purpose.
The difference between the two products (Other than brand name) is that the Behringer has RCA jacks and the iMic has 1/8" jacks. I don't have both so can't speak for the quality of the iMic, but I love my UCA202.

Yeah, after some troubleshooting, I think the problem is coming from my mic cable being cheap and unshielded. Fortunately noise reduction in Audition cuts it out without disrupting the audio but I might still pop by the music store.

I identify with your statement that 'if it's not one thing, it's another.'
I had a new sound guy working sound yesterday and was pleased he told he thinks that my mixer is broken.
Why am I glad? Because I thought so too but wondered if I'm nuts. I've gone through 3 mixers with the same problem.
NOW, I'm thinking about buying a different brand mixer all together.
I hear ya, It's always something!!!!!!!!!!!
