Audacity files

When I import my audacity file to MP3 it creates a "data" folder with hundreds au and auf files. I'm moving all my files (the audacity project files and the final MP3 file) to an external hard drive since they take way too much space on my computer's hard dive. My question is what to do with that data file? I want to delete it and just keep the actual audacity file and the MP3. What are your thoughts/suggestions?

DON'T DO IT!

That directory with all those AU files *IS* your audio file.

When you back up your show, you want to back up the audacity file AND that directory.
