Hi folks, hope I'm not blundering into something that's been discussed and sorted yonks ago but I'm pulling my hair out at the moment looking for a decent Windows based Podcast player.

We all love iTunes for its functionality ease and reliability, however. When working with a client who's business does not allow such software installed due to the vast array of other options it provides users to muck about with in work hours etc one has to seek an alternative.

Whilst looking for a competent all in one solution to subscribe to and view a Podcast I'm having a nightmare. All I can find are either "aggregators" that get it and launch something else which would be ok... if they weren't so crappy to use i.e. Juice. Or, terrible players that are horrid to use and don't play Video Podcasts.

I would love some definitive recommendations as to which software to try out in order to say "get this" and you'll be fine. iTunes, yeah it's great but not an option. I need a Podcast player that is built and designed to download and play Podcasts, both video and audio. Much appreciation for anyone who can help me out with that, thank you

An aggregator is something you'll have to get used to using, because that's what you use to get a podcast feed. It's a technical term for the RSS client. Newsreaders are aggregators, iTunes is now an aggregator, etc. As you said, the trick is to find something that works with multiple file types and has a built-in player.

Check out this link to see if you can find something that is still being developed and suits your needs (not sure how current it is): Podcasting News' Software list (http://www.podcastingnews.com/topics/Podcast_Software.html)

Or try this list: Podcasting411's list. (http://www.podcast411.com/sware_listners.html)

Good luck!

An option is Google RSS reader. I use it for vidcasts and it works just fine. Plus, it works on any computer.

WinPodder is EXACTLY what you are looking for. It doesn't have the interface that iTunes does, yet it also plays both audio and video podcasts.

NOT ONLY THAT, but here's the best part. THERE IS NO DOWNLOADING NEEDED. WinPodder will play it as if it was streaming media.

Don't believe me? Check it out - http://www.winpodder.com/ (http://www.winpodder.org/)

I can't sing enough praises for this program (Well okay, maybe that's stretching it a little  :) ). Which is why I made it my default podcatcher.

Hope this helps :D

Cheers :D
