View Full Version : Pod-Planet looks like Yahoo!

Okay, so I think I'm cranky tonight. Anyway, we just got an email from www.Pod-Planet.com that said a a fan had added us to their directory, and all we had to do was create a free account to log in and claim our feed. Oh, and add a Pod-Planet button to our website. Anyone else get one of those emails?

Anyway, as I said, I'm cranky tonight, and I don't much like being told to sign up to claim my feed. I don't care if your these guys are Odeo, PCA, or whoever. The feed is ours, and it's not a directory's place to make me register to claim something that already belongs to me. So I went to the site to see if they had a blog to comment on, and to see our show is presented.

My first impression was not a good one. Aside from a really ugly site design, there is no search box. Just a large list of categories. Once in a category, you can sort it by a pull down menu on the right, but still no searching of the category. Once I found our page, I was struck by how familiar the layout was. Then it hit me: Except for the color scheme, the podcast page's layout is exactly the same as the Yahoo! Podcast Directory's! If you have a browser capable of tabs, check these links out side-by-side! Except for Yahoo not displaying our cover art, and slight difference in color, they're exactly the same!

Pod-Planet (http://www.pod-planet.com/series_detail.asp?sid=26072)
Yahoo (podcastAlley loses some of the address, so you'll need to copy/paste it:
http://podcasts.yahoo.com/series?=e6fe6e092b04217b69d491824d9f0f90

I think I'll leave it on they're site (exposure is exposure), but I'm not wasting my time setting up an account just to claim what is ours already!

I haven't been blessed with that, but I do get other emails on occasion. I've started just ignoring them without even going to the site. Anybody anywhere an link to my feed for any reason they want, that's my view on it :)

I wonder if the people at Yahoo! have seen this.

Yes for all my shows. What a PIA, since they have all the old feeds. I skipped creating an account.

One of my shows was added to pod-planet last night and I don't think I'll bother claiming it.

I would agree with Eric... the site is not too appealing. There is a big void in the middle of the home page. Not sure as to where the navigation area is at first...

Anyway, I think I understand what these guys are trying to do, but I think they should approach it differently. Just my 2 cents...

I got one of those emails too claiming a "fan" added us... at that moment I realized it was bogus.

Yeah, I doubt a fan added us. Mostly likely one of the site owners.

Yeah, i got one of those emails too. It's pretty much the only feedback (besides friends) i've received for Miracle Groove Station at all since the first episode, so i guess they must be monitoring registries for new shows and mailing them as they see them.

...and here i was, all excited that someone actually listened to the show and liked it enough to list it on some podcast directory I'd never heard of. Excuse me while I go listen to some Fallout Boy.
