Doing a full length review of a podcast occupies a lot of listening and writing hours and, given the constraints of my pesky day job, I can only produce a couple per month. However, being a fanatic, I want to get the word out about more podcasts so I have introduced a new feature of the blog: episode of the week.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, both long time favourites and new shows that I?m trying out. Episode of the week highlights the episode I enjoyed most from my previous seven days? listening (regardless of publication date). It might be particularly funny or thought provoking or an above-average example of its genre but, whatever the reason for its selection, it will focus on episodes I think are worth a listen for some reason or other.

If you?re a podcast listener looking for new shows keep an eye on episode of the week for recommendations. If you hear a great episode of a podcast, or even if you record a particularly fabulous episode of your own show, send an email to podcast fanatic (bsquaredinoz@gmail.com) and it just might make it to episode of the week.

EPISODE OF THE WEEK #1

I can be a bit of a know-it-all so it does me the world of good to be presented with things that make me think differently about issues and events. Accordingly, the inaugural episode of the week goes to episode #51 of Quick Hitts (http://www.davehitt.com/podcasts/). In his usual calm and reasoned style host Dave Hitt provides a wonderfully concise explanation of what media bias is (and is not) and how our choices about what point(s) of view we seek out affect us. If you ignore the show notes, conveniently placed at the end, you?ll only need to spend 10 minutes to listen and, given there?s a good chance you?ll learn something, that?s a not a bad return on investment.
