Hello, I posted this in tech forum and it's been suggested I ask here, so my apologies for posting this twice. Here is my question...
I was adding my podcast to the Podcast Alley directory and I received this warning:
WARNING Item with missing or invalid opening and closing <itunes:author> tags (data: Item number 5 titled "Gatwick London to Costa Rica Direct Flight", Item number 6 titled "Costa Rica Update", Item number 9 titled "Three days away", Item number 10 titled "Happy New Year!") (code: 6500)
My feed is valid according to Feed Validator (http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Ffeeds.feedburner.com%2F CostaRicaTalkRadio). I'm not sure what the problem is am I missing a /itunes closing tag or something?

That's just a warning to help you improve your feed. If you don't want to get into the geeky details, it won't be a problem. If you want to look into it fully, check out the iTunes spec at http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html#_Toc526931674
In particular, a couple of your episodes are missing an author tag of their own.

Got it thanks. Makes sense since those entries are non-podcast blog entries so it does not have the iTunes tags.

when submitting both my feeds, I got the same iTunes tag warnings, but iTunes accepted the feeds with no problems whatsoever. My shows are hosted @ podomatic, so I am wondering if the warnings, I have received are unique to podomatic. When I pose the question of the problem being in the feed itself over at podomatic, I get accused of messing with the xml or because of my disability, spelling errors - the problem doesn't seem to be taken serioulsy.
my feeds are http://colbertcon.podomatic.com/rss2.xml
and
http://atthetable.podomatic.com/rss2.xml
can you suggest anything?
Thank you

Wow - sorry to hear about your experience with them. Since themessage is just a warning, it would be safe to ignore it. Missing the author tag for individual episodes won't break anything here at PCA, but it is part of the iTunes spec so I don't know what Apple/iTunes might be doing with it.
You might want to point the folks at podomatic to Apple's example feed (http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html#_Toc526931673) which shows the author tag being used per item. Even though Apple says that they will look elsewhere for the Author if the tag is missing per item/episode, podomatic is relying on them to do the work rather than just putting the tag in from the get go.

Thank you for the support. Uhm, the dude responidng doesn't care about iTunes. He's' not a Tech support contact there, he's afaiac, a sh*stirrer. I have yet to seem post a truly helpful response. I am brain injured. it has affected my writing skills, so I ma prone to misspelling very simple words such as "the" and with a damage visual cortex, I am highly likely to miss it.
Now, to the tag issue:
The odd thing is, is that I USE all the <tags> that the PCA validator are missing i.e category. It is very confusing. and, nothing regarding my podcast(s) have broken in iTunes. I subbed myself to make sure the feeds are working. My apple email, is a .bigfoot forwarder I have used for years. It is my dev account address and my iTunes store addy. so when I go to list over at iTunes, that is the address they use for shows.
