Fred Amoroso, CEO of DRM firm Macrovision, has responded to Apple CEO Steve Jobs’s call to dump DRM. In his letter, Amoroso asks Jobs to let Macrovision take over responsibility for Apple’s FairPlay DRM system.Last week, Jobs posted a surprising statement on the company?s site challenging the music industry to abandon DRM (copy protection) on [...]

My first thought is that big companies are usually doing only what's best for their bottom line.
This isn't about a content creator's rights. It's about these big companies getting paid, and creating the perfect selfish model that works for 'them.'
They care about 'controlling' content in a way that's to their advantage.
I don't trust these companies on this matter. It's about money for them, it's not about protecting the rights of content owners.
In any case, I may NEVER pay someone like apple for a song. I'm old fashioned. I want the cd, off of which I'm happy to rip a version that I can do whatever the heck I want with.->Probably it will go on my I-pod.
So in principle, what's the difference between Macrovision and DRM? Because, they way I understand both is that they stop the unauthorized copying of content.
One thing I'm sure about the consumer is that they want control. Consumers want to make copies for friends. As a consumer I see the content as worth LESS if I have LESS options about where and when to use it.
In short, if the consumer pays, shouldn't they be able to play it on anything they want?
As a consumer, I can't understand how DRM would be in my favor. Anyone want to explain? Am I not understanding something?
Isn't 'Fairplay' Apple's own kind of version of DRM? Isn't that what doesn't let consumers play songs from apple on other devices? This sounds kinda hypocritical. I'd like to see content so open that it will play on any device. It seems that everyone is trying to compete to monopolize some system.
Am I missing part of the big picture?
I'm curious to hear the opinions of others.
BUY THE CD! RENT FROM NETFLIX.
PROBLEMS SOLVED.
They're not? Well then, perhaps if this doesn't solve the problem then life is too complex.
Modernity isn't all rosey. It doesn't solve all of the world's problems and in fact creates some. It comes with its own peril.
I have to drive through the warming atmosphere during rush hour to my studio today.
I'm worried about Global Warming about 100,000 X more than DRM. It stands to mess with literally 'everyone.' Let's see where Global Warming gets these companies in contrast to the DRM battle heating up.
Maybe everyone should stop in this moment and do something about global warming. It's the biggest problem, and yet f*ckers are toiling over nonsense like DRM.
When we hit the threshold with global warming, I'm so curious to see what people are going to be arguing about. It ain't going to be DRM.
Let's see if all the billionaires will be able to secure all their assets in a society breaking apart.
Will global warming equalize the classes???????
Save the world a little, wealthy f*ckers. After all, the world is more important and much less fixable than anything digital.
See ya.
