How would I play sound clips in Audacity on the fly? Me and my friend want to play a news story; pause it and talk about it, than play it again. Can I do this with Audacity or do I need something else?

The simple answer is you really can't smoothly if you are just using Audacity.
What is your podcast setup?
You could play your soundclips with something like WinAmp - switching the input source in Audacity from mic or line-in to stereo mix and when the clip is done switch back to mic or line-in.
You could also got hog wild with splitters. Run a line from your headphones out back to your line-in. You may want to split that line to you can hook in headphones. You also want to split it at the line-in so you can send your mic in. Then set Audacity to record line-in and you should be able to play clips and talk into the mics at the same time.
I worked this way for a while but ended up going to a mixer that made the setup a little more manageable.

It's kind of ghetto - but here's what I would do if you don't want to get all wrapped up in wiring, rewiring, buying equipment, etc.
First, take your news story and export it as a WAV or MP3. Launch it up in Windows Media Player.
Next - launch audacity. Make sure your input is Wave Out Mix.
Start recording. Minimize Audacity and go back to Windows Media Player. Press "start" and "play" to cue the audio file, and talk normally.

Hi everyone:How would I play sound clips in Audacity on the fly? Me and my friend want to play a news story; pause it and talk about it, than play it again. Can I do this with Audacity or do I need something else? You can do it with Audacity. But if all you're going to do is play something as you're talking about it, why use Audacity when you can use something more suitable such as Winamp (http://www.winamp.com)???
Just a thought.
Cheers :D

I have installed the kit of Audacity on vista but is giving me an error Check sound card drivers.. I purchased Vista Home Edition few days ago. On XP the same software (www.freedownloadsplace.com/Products/15829/Audacity (http://www.podcastalley.com/forum/www.freedownloadsplace.com/Products/15829/Audacity)) was working good.
Can be a problem with my Vista?
