hey guys, ive just stumbled accros this forum trying to find a group who can help me out.

HERES THE TEST

I have a podcast and have submitted it to itunes.

www.mattnee.com/podcast

It exists and you can visit the page and listen to the cast all the data is there, text, images, sound etc

i linked the rss feed to itunes and that was all accepted

HOWEVER

you can view the text and the episodes through itunes but people are unable to download the audio - every attempt brings this error...

unknown error occured (-50)

also the images dont appear in itunes and are sometimes missing when viewing the rss too?!

i created my podcast page in ilife and have uploaded to my personal server

the rss feed is here

www.mattnee.com/podcast/MNPODCAST/MNCAST/rss.xml

If anyone knows what the hell is going on i would appreciate some advise as im having a lot of people listen in online but am losing people as they cant grab it through itunes

THANKS GUYS - looking forward to being a part of all this!
Matt

Hi matt,

I ran your feed through a feed validator: http://feedvalidator.org/

You'll want to do the same thing but from what I can tell, you are missing part of your URL in your feed. Plug your feed into the above validator and you will see what I am talking about. You are missing the "http:" in your URL address.

For example, line 9 of your feed reads:
<url>//www.mattnee.com/podcast/MNPODCAST/MNCAST/MNCAST_files/DSC05558.png</url>

and should be:

<url>http://www.mattnee.com/podcast/MNPODCAST/MNCAST/MNCAST_files/DSC05558.png</url>

Hope this was helpful. Good luck. And welcome to Podcasting!:)

John

About the feed validation: Yeah, what John said.

Now, let's talk about iLife. What app in iLife are you using to generate the feed? Are you doing it through Garageband, iWeb? Which one?

I personally use iWeb, and I think I know why your URL is getting screwed up. When you publish to your folder, and the box at the bottom of the dialogue asks for your domain, did you enter the "http" as part of it? If you didn't, you should be. Likewise, if you use another app in iLife, the "http" still needs to be there. I'd double check that. Nice thing is, that's an easy mistake to fix.

hi guys doesnt seem to have worked :(

i checked through that handy feed checker and i have 3 new errors but are these terminal? i cant see why these would be causing this?

Also is there anyway to change the feed address of your podcast on itunes or do you have to re-apply?

Those should not be a feed killer. Your feed shows up, so it does seem to have worked. If you're waiting for it to show updated info, you'll have to ping them, and wait several hours. If you want to test it, though, go to the "Advanced" menu in iTunes, select subscribe to podcast, and then paste in the appropriate URL.

If it's still not working, and you think you need to update your feed address with iTunes, then this code should work. You will need to enter your own feed address and then paste it in near the top of your RSS file (using TextEdit). It goes right after the <channel> tag.

<itunes:new-feed-url>http://www.YourFeedAddressHere</itunes:new-feed-url>

Once you upload that to where you've been putting your RSS file, ping iTunes. See if that helps.

BTW, what program are you using to upload your iWeb site?

In your confirmation email from iTunes (you should have gotten one once you were accepted), there are some links to ping the iTunes music store. Just copy and paste it into your browser and hit "return." The format would look something like this:

https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?feedURL=http://www.YourPodcastAddress.com/rss.xml

There should also be one with your podcast's ID#, but I find that one is a little twitchy. Sending the itunes bot directly to your site is the fastest way to update your listing.

Also, since we're on the subject of pinging, I would suggest that you also use Triyo (http://www.triyo.com/) to ping your podcast. It pings dozens of directories across the 'net at once. It works beautifully! Just make sure you tick the checkbox next to the search field (or else you won't ping your podcast).
