Hey everyone,

The website I work for is interested in doing a podcast in the coming new year. I've done a few on my own (with a co-host) so far but really want to have more of a "semi professional" set up. The way we were doing it before was definitely the long and more difficult way to record. We recorded using the mic from a Canon XL1 (we also make short films) that recorded in stereo, so we'd sit opposite each other with the mic between us. I'd then upload the audio to my laptop and edit with Audition 1.5 from there.

This past week I bought a Lexicon Lambda http://www.lexiconpro.com/ProductIndex.aspx?ProductID=8 (http://www.lexiconpro.com/ProductIndex.aspx?ProductID=8)since we both want to have seperate mics and not have to congregrate around a camera.

The problem I am now having is that when using the Lambda, I'm only able to record in mono, so it only comes through one channel. If I plug a mic directly into the laptop's soundcard, I'm able to record in stereo but the quality sucks. Am I making a big thing out of nothing? Is there even a problem here? I suppose we can record it with each of us on our own channel (me Left, him Right), but I would think that would be weird if you listened to it with headphones. Is this normal protocol? Or is this something you can fix in the final mix using the Pan effect in Audition? Ideally, I'd want us to sound "centered" instead of individually in each channel.

I just came upon this site in the last few days and I find it extremely informative and hope that you guys/gals can help a brother out:D

Cheers
Johnny

I don't understand all you are saying, but apparently you are able to record left and righ separately.

If that is true, then yes, record them separately as left and right then convert each to mono in post. Then they will both play in each ear as centered. Then you can mess with pan later if you do want to have a slight left/right affect.

Excellent. Glad you deciphered my ramblings because your advice worked.
