hey yall I have a designer working on a website for me. The website is to advertise my DJ business and the Hip hop artists I am producing for. I am also just getting into podcasting and was wondering if I can possibly host them and hold them on my own web page. Does anyone know if that is possible? If so what do I need to make sure I include when I purchase this website, like what type of space will it need and bandwidth and anything else. What does a personal website need to hold podcasts?

You don't need anything special to host a podcast on your own page. All you need is disk space and bandwidth. And early in the game, you won't need a huge amount of either. Any decent host should provide enough of both to meet your needs. Buy a cheap package, and if/when your show gets popular enough to start using too much space/bandwidth, you can either upgrade to a different hosting package, or use other solutions like Lybsyn.
Hosting it yourself is more work, but has a few huge advantages, the primary one being control. If you use any third party you loose control, and if they screw up you can lose everything. For instance, if you sign up with "Big Eds Free Podcast Server," and your RSS feed is "biged.com/djdubld.xml," and Big Ed goes out of business, you'll vanish from the podiosphere and have to start over. But if you're doing it yourself that won't be a problem.
Control your domain name! Nothing is more important than that. Do not go for the "free" domain names offered by ISPs. Buy it yourself, from Go Daddy, and own and control it. It will cost you less than ten bucks a year, and makes it relatively painless to change hosts without losing any of your listeners. Goggle "Go Daddy Coupons" and you should be able to find codes that will let you buy a DN for about eight bucks.
A great host can become a crappy host overnight. If they control your domain name, you're screwed. If you control it, it?s a PITA, but you can sign up with a new host, upload your files, change the name servers at Go Daddy, and your back in business in hours. Most of your listeners and site visitors won't even know it happened.
If you're doing a music podcast bandwidth shouldn't be too much of a problem unless you're doing long shows and doing them frequently. If you do get to the point where you're using up your bandwidth - Congratulations! At that point you can move your files to Lybsyn or someone else offering a similar service, or get a bigger package from your host.

I think it's a good idea to get one hosting for the website and another hosting for the shows.
You can get the first one with PHP/Perl/MySQL support and all that kinds of stuff and the second one with just lots of space and bandwith. And good speed. ;)
