I am working on a podcast but I am having a difficult time recording multiple tracks.
I have an introduction song that plays in the beginning with the envelope tool.
The problem is when I record to add my voice on another track the song bleeds into the track as well, essentially making the song echo when I play it back.
What I would like to have happen is be able to record the second track indivually w/o any of the other tracks bleeding into that track.

I thought to mute the other tracks while recording but I need to hear the other tracks as well b/c in order to hit my mark when it's time to talk and such.

I am assuming that you are playing the tracks out of speakers. They using headphones, that way you can still hear the tracks as they play and you shouldn't have to worry about any echo.

Thanks for the response. I failed to mention my setup as well
I have an MXL 990 and UB802 (the starters podcasting equip ).
I have the 990 connected via XLR to the mixer. I dont have any line-in jacks on my laptop, just a mic in and headphone jacks.
I have a 1/8" to 1/4" cable going from the headphone jack into the channel 3/4 input on the mixer. I have the tape out on the mixer going into the mic-in on the laptop.
So basically the whole mix is being recorded into Audacity, but when I record the second track for my voice it picks up all the other stuff being output from the mixer.
Does this make a difference?

that goes just a little bit beyond a poor college students expertise, however, there are people at this board that can probably help you more, however, eminating sound out of the speakers when recording is normally a good idea anyways.
