View Full Version : NLO Tongue in Cheek Calls for Suicide

Usually hysterical, NLO crossed the line on their last show when Patrick chose to spend a portion of the show asking teenagers to commit suicide to help promote the show. It was a very poor attempt to shock, what it seems to have done is enrage. I know I won't be listening to the show again.

Took you this long to figure out they are completely messed up? Figured the raping children comment would have done it for ya. Well glad you saw the light anyways.

NLO is aimed at kids under 15. Yet the content is X-Rated.
There is a reason that Itunes have banned this show.

Ehh...I didn't find it super funny..but then I don't have to love every segment. It was a lil extreme, I agree...but you have to be a f'ing moron to actually kill yourself just cause someone on the un-radio said to....now a tattoo...that is a whole nother story. ;)

You miss the point entirely. Teenagers are highly impressionable people-I am a high school teacher so I experience this on a daily basis.
Sure most teenagers would not follow advice like this but it only takes one who is depressed and looks up to (God knows why) Patrick Melton and his kid-raping antics to follow and think it would be a good idea. Teen suicide rates are massive in most Western countries.
That is why the NLO show is as bad as the pedo and racist shows.

Gee, a$$-wipe is unusually quiet about this.
I suppose he'll slide in here and tell us we're all too uptight, we just don't get his humor, and somehow Western Society owes him a big freaking BJ for casting off the shackles of puritanical humor. Or some other such BS to justify his being a complete nimrod. At least, that's been his position before.

Free speech goes both ways. You want to instigate violence and pedophilia be prepared to be named and shamed Patrick Melton.

Diva, you are of course entitled to your opinion, and if NLO is the type of show you like and associate with, that's cool. But please, don't tell me to "play nice," when NLO does not. In fact they go out of their way NOT to play nice.
Yes, podcasting is a means of personal expression, and we all do have a right to say and do what we want -- but only to a point. There are both legal and social boundaries about what we can say and do, and an individuals liability, culpability and responsibility. In other words, Free Speech doesn't cost you money, but it ain't free!
Patrick wants to spew his brand of garbage, that's his call, but I also get to say what I think about it. Nothing says NLO gets a free pass, not even a Diva.

I'm not saying Patrick doesn't like to get dirty and bully on the forums...but this thread is inviting that behavior. I'm asking to play nice in consideration of the other forum members. Why provoke it?
I know the intent of calling attention to NLO's behavior was to shame them, but that isn't quite how the results of a thread like this works out. I'd say you're helping to promote it, generating interest, provoking curiosity.
Eric -I have been seperated from this site for a while. I miss out on a lot. Unfortunatly, my 9 to 5 has banned anything with Mp3 in the tags and now I feel completly removed. Hopefully you still know me for me, not just for my affiliations. I should hope the same from other members too. Didn't mean to butt in.

Okay let me get this straight:
1. You acknowlege that Patrick is a bully on forums.
2. You are his self-appointed cheerleader.
3. You ask us to play nice.
Let me put it this way Diva. When you chose to associate yourself with Patrick you have to play on his terms. And he DON'T play nice. Asking us to play nice is simply hypocritical when your hero doesn't play by those same rules.
I reckon that you're probably okay IRL but when you chose to associate yourself with this miscreant you can't expect people to take you seriously when you act like a peacemaker.
Out of respect for you I will back off in this thread now. Seriously though, be an individual. Let us see who you really are apart from Patrick's lapdog.

while very entertaining, this is possibly the most ridiculous thing i've read in a while, or at least today. The usual high horse moral dredge mixed with a little schoolyard slanging. NLO can say what the they feel like, if kids are commiting suicide i think there's some deeper underlying problems that could use addressing than a slightly simple (sorry patrick) podcaster, mr high school teacher. personally i thought it was funny as hell. the humour on NLO has nothing to do with the literal meaning of the content- it's the all about the likely reception from the every day chumps like you guys and your moral garbage. your blind as can be if you can't see that this type of reaction fuels this material- then again keep it up or it won't be funny anymore.

You make an excellent point, Diva. I'll try not to provoke Patrick. You're right, he doesn't need any more attention than he already he gets.
And too bad about the 9 to 5 blocking your access. Mine is the same way. It's always good to see you around. :)

See, what did I tell you all? Sure, it's not Patrick saying it -- just one of his fanboys -- but it's pretty much exactly what I predicted would be used as the defense for the indefensible.

Say what you want, you all still listened. That's all they need from you. If you did not I can't understand how you would be qualified to offer an opinion on this matter.
I did listen and not once did I honestly believe that they wanted anyone to kill themselves.

Expression of opinions is what forums are all about. You may disagree with an opinion and respond, but you have no right to tell anyone else not to express their opinions because a third party might get upset or respond in a certain way.

Well, at least you still know how to retread a joke, over and over and over and over....
Some people might get bored with that Patrick, but I consider it a public service. Once you listen to or see one of your schticks, you don't need to again, thus allowing yourself to move onto something much more entertaining and actually funny.

Right, right, lacking humanity blah, blah. Jesus, your fighting a tough battle- but here's a tip, as you've decided to carry the torch for keeping the bar high for humanity, you might want to focus your substantial efforts elsewhere- like an arena where you might make a difference. Also, try reading what you just posted and discern any actual point. Can you truly not see that your behaviour is what fuels this 'indefensible' content? NLO loves it- most of the things they talk about involve people whining. Or saying things that make people whine. Or just being abnoxious. It happens bud, don't fight it- embrace it.

Hi. I'm a huge NLO fan. I'd like to say that anyone who's complaining about this really needs to get the sand out of their vagina. Honestly. Grow the **** up. It's a joke. If kids off themselves because of it....well, I think it's all for the better. I'm a Social Darwinist. Let's weed out all the weak ones so the strong can survive in a better world without all the emo children. So, my hat's off to Patrick for making a statement I think should have been made by more people ages ago. I think he didn't go far enough. He should have given step by step instructions on how to kill yourself to actually get the job done.
And wait. One more thing.
Agile - You're supposed to be a teacher and you don't even have proper grammatical skills? No wonder kids in the US are getting more idiotic.
I honestly wish all the whiny people who complain that shows like this are corrupting our youth would get chemically castrated.

The people who are blaming media for all the issues of our nation's youth make me sick. Especially those of you who don't have kids. YOU are the reason that kids are killing themselves....instead of helping them, you're attacking the things in their lives that bring them joy.

I know the intent of calling attention to NLO's behavior was to shame them, but that isn't quite how the results of a thread like this works out. That's because, unlike normal human beings, Patrick and crew are incapabable of the emotion of shame.
Sure, it's not Patrick saying it Are you sure about that? With three whole posts under their belt, this could be anyone.
And there's another new one right afterward, with two posts.
So Patrick is not only a hole, he's a coward too.
And yet a third one after that, with one post.
Perhaps Patrick should change the name of his show to Sock Puppet Theater.

The same way you've been ignoring me and some of the others? I thought teachers were supposed to listen to students and new ideas.
Maybe it's because we were the only ones to raise a point without being faceless flamers. Kind of hard to act superior when we raise to your level. It's not all that high in the first place.
Point? You raised a point? Hmmm. All I heard was a typical emo teenager whining about how hard and hellish life was, and that NLO helped you through the torment. Which is sad on a dozen levels, I suppose.
What's Tim supposed to say in response to that?
Personally, I'd say, do something. Anything. Get a hobby. Do your homework. But sitting around whining about your personal hell isn't going to cut it.
I'm sure I'm coming across as a callous a$$hole.
I swore I'd stay away from the NLO threads. I despise them enough to resist bumping their threads.
But kid, you gotta get a life.
