I am just starting out trying to record a spoken podcast. I have a problem that "s" sounds are creating a popping sound - please listen to this example
http://www.picifix.com/dkt_podcasts/hiss-pop-example.wav
The recording was made on a pc using a Trust HS-4080 USB headset.
At the moment the best i have come up with is to use the equaliser to take down the high frequencies, but this is not ideal as sounds too dull.
any advice would most apreciated,
thanks

If you were using a regular microphone, I'd say get a pop-filter. Since your using a headset, the only think I can think of is move the microphone away from your mouth or place it out of a direct line with your mouth.

I agree with X Pat Radio.
And if you don't have a pop filter and need to fix it on the fly you might try placing a T-Shirt or some other piece of thin cloth over the microphone.

Very simply... the signal is clipping.. because it's to loud. You need to lower the gain of the recording level. What recording software are you using?

pfwenton nailed it - your record level is too high and you're peaking out.

some people with similar problems might want to check out the free effect Spitfish (http://www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php?item=2&subItem=5)

Thanks for the help.
I tried and tried to get the recording level down, but for some strange reason the level kept rising back up on its own - spooky!
instead we rotated the micro phone in the complete oposite direction and although the voice is a little faint, the pop has gone.
