I record a Skype call using a mix-minus; I'm on the left channel of a stereo track, my co-host is on the right. I want to make each channel mono but still be able to work on them independently. This is a piece of cake in Audacity (split track, set each channel to mono), but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it in Audition. Anybody know? Thanks...

I've got 1.5, and there's probably a better way, but this might work. Select the whole tex (or the part you want to seperate), and try to find a button up above that looks like two channels of audio, one selected one not. There should be a button for the left and right channel. Then, right click and select copy to new, and this should make a new file out of the selected text (this works on mine).

Maybe somebody knows an easier way, though.

I also just dicovered you can get the same effect of the button by pressing the up and down keys. :P

Okay, but now I have to edit each one of these tracks independently. Is thre a way to do this but still pull both mono channels into the edit mode? I need to be able to hear them both when editing.

I record shows with Skype split channel all the time. In Audition (I use 1.5) open the stereo recording in EDIT WAVEFORM VIEW mode---not MULTITRACK.
With the stereo track open you can edit "on the fly" by selecting into the upper/left channel or lower/lright channel: hold left mouse button and sweep up or down inside the individual channel---an icon "L" or "R" will appear over the selected area for that channel. For more control you can select the "Zoom in horizontally" control.

Believe me---you can edit down to milliseconds using this mode. You can edit one or both channels using this method and perform any task including normalization, hiss removal, etc. on one or both channels, even cut and paste. When finished editing just save the MP3 to "convert to mono". Nice thing, too, Audition performs non-destructive editing so the original file(s) are unchange until you save.
