Hi,

I'm originally a German Podcaster and now I'm searching for ressources in English that can be used by K-12 teachers to get more information about interesting podcasts for themselves and their pupils.

I am interested in any kind of ressources: podcast directories additional to odeo.com or podshow.com, free podcast hosts additional to odeo.com or podstrike, or recommended podcasts that can be used for pupils and/or teachers that want to use podcasting for their class.

Welcome!

I've heard from a lot of teachers who are recommending my Grammar Girl podcast (http://grammar.qdnow.com) to their students, and I'm getting hits from sites that seem to be education-oriented like Moodle (http://moodle.org/), Learn Out Loud (http://www.learnoutloud.com), WebCT (http://webct.homeip.net), and School Notes (http://schoolnotes.com/). Depending on what you are looking for, those might be good sites to start with.

My podcast is being used in several schools as a teaching aid and by groups learning English (since I put up a transcript of every show).

Marian -

A couple of sources for you:

Fordham University in New York has a site called Podcast for Teachers that has lots of resources for teachers getting into podcasting. The center is run by Dr. Kathy King, who I believe is in the process of writing a book for teachers. She would be a good person to contact:
http://www.podcastforteachers.org/

Apple's website has a good overview with case studies and tutorials that continues to grow. Not everything they go over is limited to a Mac, either. You can find it at:
http://www.apple.com/education/solutions/podcasting/index.html

There was a special session at the recent Podcast & Portable Media Expo here in southern California last week about K-12 podcasting that I chaired. We had an excellent hour-long discussion on some practical issues involved in educational podcasting at this level. The session should be available in the near future from the Expo's website for you to listen to:
http://www.portablemediaexpo.com

You may also want to check out David Warlick's podcast on K-12 podcasting (he's a big name here in the states in ed tech):
http://davidwarlick.com/connectlearning/

And not to be outdone in self-promotion, the Center for Educational Development in Los Angeles has two podcasts of interest that I co-produce:
-English as a Second Language Podcast and
-ESLPod.com's Guide to the TOEFL Test
Both of these would be of interest to 7-12 educators in Germany, I should think. We have many listeners from Germany already, including high school classes that use our materials (currently 250+ English lessons in the form of podcasts). Our website is:
http://www.eslpod.com

Good luck with your project and feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

what i'd like to see more is resources to help people of that age podcast themselves. i'm getting involved in something locally, but does anyone know of any real movement or organization doing this nationwide?

Thanks to all, and escpecially to Jeff for this detailed list of good ressources. BTW: I am a great fan and regular listener of your eslpod already ;-)

@inoveryourhead: I hope I can make the first step in helping pupils to start their first podcast. I will give a course that should enable the teachers to produce their own podcast in the classroom. The course is organized by a community called knowschools located in canada. I hope I will be able to teach this material to other teachers in other parts of the world.

I've put together this wiki for a workshop at my university, and it has a lot of infor for podcasting and education, including links to suggested podcasts.

http://www.podcastingworkshop.wikispaces.com

In addition to showing educational podcasts (most focusing on lnaguage learning), i have added how to subscribe and sync your podcast. My next addition will include how to produce a simple podcast, especiailly for students.

The wiki is locked at the moment because I am updating it and don't want students changing it, but I'll unlock it once the workshop is complete.
