View Full Version : migrating feed from one host to another

Hello.

I created a new podcast in June and since then have created very substantial traffic. Over 400k downloads. (ftew.libsyn.com/rss).

However, I've now run into problems with Libsyn who host my podcast. One podcast episode (out of 24, so far) continuously throws up "404" errors when I link directly to it, and isn't available at all in iTunes. (It is an episode I re-uploaded 'cos I wanted to make a small change to it.)

Apparently there have been some server problems or something at the Libsyn end that have caused such problems recently, although I have been finding it impossible to get a definitive answer from them as to why it's happening. It is not a path- or file-naming problem at my end.

I have contacted Libsyn several times but to no avail. Frankly, I think they don't have the staff to handle all the mail they must be receiving and business they are doing.

My question is: how can I migrate seamlessly to another host in such a fashion that my subscribers - the vast majority of whom come to me via iTunes - are not aware I have migrated? Is this possible?

I would be extremely appreciative if anyone could help me with this.

Thanks,

Hugh

I found a workaround which solved my problem. I uploaded the same media file with a new name and associated the podcast episode in question with this new media file.

Thank you anyway.

Hi Hugh...

I'm in the exact position that you're in - or *were* in before you found your workaround. Congratulations on figuring it out!

Would you mind sharing exactly how you "associated" the episode with the new media file? (My great fear, of course, is that I'll accidentally force my listeners to download every single episode *again*. I assume that with this technique you didn't have this happen.)

And out of curiousity, since I'm guessing you've already left LibSyn, where did you go? (I've got a WordPress blog under construction.)

I'd appreciate any pointers you can give me - you can probably relate to the fact that I'm tearing my hair out over this.

Best,
