View Full Version : MP3 + Logo = Invalid MP3?

About 1 month ago a listener was asking why a logo didn't appear on his iPod when he played my show.

So I found out in iTunes how to add a logo while I'm editing the ID3 tags - problem solved.

Coincidently, two things happened within a day of each other yesterday:

1) I wanted to edit an old show. I opened it up in my editor but the editor complained it was a non-standard MP3 file. I stripped out all the MP3 tags, including the logo, and it worked.

2) A listener emailed and said while the shows play in MS Media Player, they wouldn't work on his 'generic' MP3 player.

Does the addition of the logo mean it's no longer a fully-standard MP3?

If yes, then I'm about to go on a rant against proprietory 'standards'.

Hey Soccer Shout--

Fond World Cup memories!

Are you by any chance using VBR mp3s? It's more efficient but some mp3 players can't play em. oh and which software are you editing with?

I don't know what a VBR is! Sorry!

I'm editing in a little-known package called WavePad.

I'm adding the id3 tags and 'album art' in this thing called "iTunes".

VBR is variable bit rate. You can tell whether your files are VBR or CBR (constant bit rate) by getting info, show properties, etc in a variety of programs. Maybe find lamedrop mp3 encoder and use that.

Okay, I guess I did know what VBR is!

No, they're 64K constant.

Here's my evidence though (and I'm technically on holiday, so I can't really check this out)

1) Couldn't open MP3 in Wavepad, stripped ID3 tags and album art, then it worked.

2) Listener can listen on his PC but not his 'generic' MP3 player.
