Oct 11, I will celebrate the one year anniversary of VolksCast Radio. VolksCast is a show that covers the world of competative Air-Cooled VW Drag Racing and Collecting. I have had some awesome guests from Jesse James of Monster Garage, Rich Christensen the host of SpeedTV's Pinks to Ron Flemming (The inventor of the "Cal-Look" Bug).

The Show is incredable popular in the VW Community, I am just wondering what to do to celebrate one year of show. Any ideas?

Every six months I look back at the previous half year and play the music I had the most fun playing. However, instead of it being a clip show, I play music from those artists that I had not previously played, which gave a real genre shift within the show.

Why not go back to the previous guests and get updates from them of things that have happened for them over the past year? That would provide more than a crappy clip show, but give more information from guests who have made a difference. I'd be a lot of work, but these special shows always do.

Definitely ask for audio clips from other podcasters that you admire.

Consider doing a year in review, with clips from your own shows, and news items highlighting big events of the year.

Goofs and gaffes are always popular. Outtakes if you have them.

In my birthday show, I did a bit comparing the popularity of podcasting then and now, and dredged up some other statistics to mark the passage of time.

If you're considering any changes in content, format, style, etc. invite user input now, and announce the changes in your birthday show.

Definitely pimp your show's success, and thank your listeners and everybody who made it happen.

I thought about doing a highlight show or a clip show and then realized

1) that sounded like a lot of work
2) that did not make any new content
3) it did not sounds fun to me

so I just celebrated for 30 seconds and then went back to my usual format

I thought it would be cool to do a best-of my outtakes show for the 53rd edition of my weekly show (http://www.wildebeat.net/index.cgi/2006/08/10#E053). As much work as it was, I would not declare it one of my better shows.

Oh well, it was an experiment -- and a learning experience.

Interesting. I release a new episode every week, but I do a "best of" show about once every three months. It's a way of taking a break and re-charging the creative juices.

Two of the "best of" shows are in my top ten of all shows, based on unique downloads.

New listeners often comment that they go to the "best of" shows to get a sense of what the show is about.

It takes me less than two hours to put together a "best of" show, as opposed to more than ten hours to research, write, record, and produce a new show.

I think the idea here is to not go overboard with such shows. There is one very popular show that hit a milestone and asked for audio comments. The result was a show of ayudio comments telling him how great his show was - I listened to about five minutes then hit the Delete button.

I think I have decide to take some of the good advice here and do:

1) A follow up with 2 or 3 of the best guests I have had
2) Encapsulate where the show was, where it is now and its future.
3) I have recorded some happy anniversary bumpers to pepper thru out the show.
4) And I am going to play a few of my favorite clips from the past year with my comments
5) and end with a few blooper outtakes.

All in an hour, maybe :-)

Thanks for the advice.

Congrats on hitting your 1 year mark!! We just hit our 1 year mark at the beginning of this month.

We had our listeners call in a testamonial about our site and Podcast and gave away some stuff (t-shirts, car polish kits, posters). We also did the blooper type episode as well for episode #52.5.

Congrats again!
