He's messing with you.
I think it's supposedly around twenty five thousand. At least that's around the number I see thrown around here quite frequently. I think that may be worldwide, but I'm not sure.
I think Podcast Alley lists the total number of podcasts in their directory on their front page. I'm sure it's not all-inclusive.
You may also get an idea from the iTunes Podcast directory.
I'm not sure where else reliable statistics can be had. Can anybody suggest anything?
Later,
Evil.

I tried a couple of weeks ago. But since I had tried out the trial version last year, my PC remembered that and I was told I couldn’t try this one.
That should have been obvious.
The real number, of course, is 809.
(The correct answer is “nobody knows, but somewhere between 25k and 50k is probably about right.â€)

Me.
That's my guess, based on all the news and reports I've seen. Anyone else is free to guess a different number, of course.

Actually, I think Evil's talking about the quotation in this post of yours:

...
I'm also at a loss to figure out where that came from...

Oops.
That quote should have been
He's messing with you.
And since I don’t spend a lot of time re-reading my old posts, I didn’t catch the error, and so misinterpreted Evil’s question.
I almost always wrote my replies in any forum in Word, and then paste it in. That gives me a chance to correct my spelling, which is horrible. The wrong quote, the one that’s in there, was from a different thread, where FeedForAll was telling people to try out their new beta software.
